This is the philosophy shared by the D’Alesio family, who produce excellent wines from Abruzzo such as Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Tenuta del Professore and Pecorino Superiore.
D’Alesio Sciarr’s History and Philosophy
We are in Abruzzo in the province of Pescara in Città Sant’Angelo, a beautiful medieval village so dear to Luigi Pirandello. The Angolan hills covered with vineyards have an ancient winemaking tradition and a valuable production of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Here there are important farms, scattered throughout the territory, which produce wine, oil, potatoes and other products of the countryside. Among these, the Azienda Agricola D’Alesio “Sciarr” stands out par excellence, located at 300 m. s.l.m.
At the helm of the company two families, one who lives in Città Sant’Angelo and one in Fabriano in the Marche where they manage a hotel restaurant Il Marchese del Grillo, together they work towards a single goal, to grow products on 40 hectares, in agriculture in organic regime, part of which dedicated to other crops such as: extra virgin olive oil, legumes and selected cereals and part cultivated with vineyards located on pebbly and calcareous soils, which enjoy a good exposure and an excellent microclimate, mitigated by the winds regular and the influence of the Adriatic Sea nearby.
The wines of D’Alesio Sciarr
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is the undisputed protagonist, in fact the company produces a wine of great structure with a strong tradition: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva, however other interpreters are part of the production such as the enveloping Trebbiano Tenuta del Professore, dedicated to grandpa Mario. But the company does not only produce still wines, the D’Alesio were the first to launch SciarRosè in Abruzzo, a 100% rosé sparkling wine. Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and SciarrMant a 100% Trebbiano brut sparkling wine, in addition to an interesting Abruzzo Cococciola Superiore DOC.
The proposed line is dry and concrete and the wines reflect the work in the cellar, in fact the aging takes place in large oak barrels, without unnecessary manipulation and unnecessary processing. In addition to the products of the countryside, the company has a production of excellent organic extra virgin olive oil combined with an organic cosmetic line based precisely on organic extra virgin olive oil.
