Barollo

(PREGANZIOL – TREVISO) Marco and Nicola Barollo produce wines of great ambition and complexity, showing that that the Veneto wine is not only Prosecco.

Barollo’s History and Philosophy

The Marca Trevigiana , the area around the city of Treviso , is famous for its natural beauty: the intense green of the vegetation, the gentle hills, the splendid view of the mountains to the north. And to these natural beauties must be added those built by the hand of man: the extraordinary churches and monasteries, the noble villas, the imposing palaces, an architecture very inspired by the extraordinary architectural ideas of Andrea Palladio, born in nearby Vicenza.

The area is also known for its distinguished cuisine, one of the best in Italy, with delicious risotto, pasta, polenta, as classics and, especially during autumn, the abundant mushrooms, both wild and cultivated, which adorn many of the typical dishes. Viticulture is also included in this history, but until recently the area’s wine was synonymous, essentially, with Prosecco, whose production has expanded enormously in recent years, now reaching hundreds of millions of bottles.

He has always been able, however, to count on the potential for wines of great ambition and complexity , achieved only partially, but latent, which was just waiting to be developed. And one of the houses that surely have shown it in the past fifteen years is that of the brothers Marco and Nicola Barollo , located in Preganziol south of the province’s capital. Founded in 2001, the work began, rightly, with a careful study of the characteristics of the soil and micro-climate of the entire property to determine which of the varieties were most suitable for each individual lot.

A necessary work: the property covers over 40 hectares of vineyards and the combination of variety with the individual plot was certainly essential.

The wines of Barollo

The high professional work of winemakers Mario Barbieri and Riccardo Cotarella has certainly been ascertained by the impressive results obtained in just over fifteen years. Many expressive wines, including Prosecco , Chardonnay , Sauvignon , Manzoni Bianco , Pinot Bianco , but the biggest surprise ever comes from Frank! , large, sweet, flagrant and long, a Cabernet Franc which dispels all doubts about the potential of this grape very widespread in Veneto.

Frank!
