(MATELICA -MACERATA) Bisci is one of the best producers of white wines from the Marche, notable is its Verdichio Vigneto Fogliano selection. Its red Sangiovese-Merlot blends are also excellent.

Bisci’s History and Philosophy

The community of wine lovers, explorers in constant search for wines of character and quality, capable of provoking intense emotions, both in Italy and abroad, knows without doubt that one of the best white wines is produced from Verdicchio grapes. It is very probable, however, that they think these wines come exclusively from the area around the city of Jesi whose castle gives its name to the denomination of the Marche , Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi . With over 2000 hectares of vineyards, it is the main source of wine of the variety and its best bottles are in fact very good.

Verdicchio, however, is also cultivated and fermented in another part of the Marche region, high on the mountainous part of the province of Macerata, where the soil, and in particular the climate, are very different from that of the Jesi vineyards in the province of Ancona , at a lower altitude. The denomination is much smaller with its 260 hectares planted with vineyards, and finding good examples can be a difficult task. But when there are, the only possible reaction is to exclaim: “What wines!” The fragrance, length and intensity are unforgettable, and they are also some of the longest lasting white wines in Italy: examples made from successful vintages can be drunk even after 10 years.

The wines of Bisci

Bisci are successful entrepreneurs in the field of domestic appliances, specialized in kitchen components. But like many others of their generation, they have maintained strong ties to the land; for them, wine is far from a secondary matter. 17 of the approximately 20 hectares of vineyards are dedicated to Verdicchio, their pride and joy, and are cultivated with all love and care. Blends of red Sangiovese-Merlot wines are also produced , but the great variety of whites in the region is the main focus and whites are truly excellent bottles. The production of wine is supervised by Aroldo Bellelli , and his Verdicchio is normally an impressive wine, the selection, Vigneto Fogliano, offers an electrifying vibrancy that is not easy to forget.
