Cantina Destefanis’s History and Philosophy

The Cantina Destefanis is located in Valpone, a hamlet of Canale, in the province of Cuneo in the Piedmont region. To characterize the landscape here are the hills of the Roero on the border with the Asti area. In this area, particular attention is given to the Arneis grape variety which gives rise to the renowned DOCG Roero Arneis white wine.

The history of the Destefanis winery dates back to the beginning of the twentieth century, in 1912 to be precise, when its founder Michele Destefanis decided to buy the land on which the company still stands, led today by Federico Destefanis who represents the fourth generation. The company vineyards are cultivated on different types of soils, some are of sandstone origin, which gives the wines fragrant and elegant notes, while the wines that assume pre-eminent austerity come from grapes that rest on soils where the sand amalgamates with clay and more limestone marl.

The soil and climatic conditions certainly favor perfect maturation and give the various varieties of vines an indistinguishable territorial identity, but only the expert hand and passion are able to channel this potential and raise it through rigorous work in the vineyard and in the cellar.

In fact, thanks to Federico’s intervention, the company has expanded and the cellar has been re-equipped and updated with the best and most recent technologies to produce wines of quality and character. The cellar was also equipped with different types of barrels according to the different winemaking processes adopted: cement, stainless steel and wood.
A particularity that denotes how strongly the Destefanis Winery is closely linked to its territory is the Taulaluuunga, a wooden table with imposing dimensions, located right in the middle of the vineyards.

The wines of Cantina Destefanis

The table is the symbol of conviviality par excellence and is also the place where traditions are handed down and shared. Starting from this idea, Federico has created a table of over fifty meters where they can sit comfortably up to the center of the people, an original way of making their wines and the beauty of the Roero known, thus rediscovering flavors and emotions that they know of other times.

The line offered boasts minimal and elegant labels and ranges offering Langa and Roero wines such as Arneis, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Favorita, Bonarda. An interesting brut sparkling wine Method Charmat “Reinis”, based on Chardonnay Pinot Noir and Favorita, of great fragrance and fine perlage, Moscato D’Asti DOCG “Ventum”, soft and intensely floral and Clamoris “are also added to the list a highly drinkable rosé wine.

Of particular interest is the “Radius Roero Arneis”, with captivating fruity notes of exotic fruit and a savory and enveloping palate, or the fresh, floral and long-lasting “Libero M’Incontrerai Roero Arneis DOCG”; the “Nevis Roero DOCG Riserva 2014”, with clear red fruits on display and a silky tannic texture, the “Deligitis Barbera d’Alba DOC”, with great character and pleasant refreshing acidity of the vein, or the “Nebias Langhe DOC Nebbiolo” , with an eloquent and velvety nose in the mouth.
