Cantina La Marchesa’s History and Terroir
The south of Italy offers the visitor immense beauty and history. Cantina La Marchesa is located in Lucera , an important center of the Capitanata, in the center of the Tavoliere delle Puglie , in the foothills of Daunia, an important historical-geographical district, not far from the capital Foggia , a territory where ancient abbeys merge between fields of olive trees and rows of vineyards. The long winemaking tradition of this area is very ancient, it is thought, in fact, that the first Italian wine was produced precisely by some vines of Apulia and Sicily already in the second millennium BC, a demonstration of this, obtained from the discovery of some finds from the oenological art.
The city of Lucera is included in the Daunia DOC Wine Route and it is in this territory that the Cantina la Marchesa company was born in 1988, managed by Marika and Sergio . 15 hectares of vineyards around the farm rigorously hand-worked with competence and great professionalism. The winemaking tradition is that of Puglia made of passion and love for the land, so much to use, as can be read from the company’s website ” Pruners have been dealing with manual pruning for generations, a job done with an expert eye to get the best from the plant ” .
The Philosophy of the wines of Cantina La Marchesa
This permits a quality in the cellar and consequently the production of a wine of excellence, like the wine “Nerone della Marchesa” a red wine, obtained from one of the most important vines of the Azienda, Nero di Troia, a red grape autoctonous vine, which for a long time was relegated to a secondary role, especially used to strengthen weaker wines. In recent times it has finally begun to obtain its rightful recognitions, showing that fermenting in purity one can obtain wines of excellence, as is absolutely the Nerone della Marchesa, and it is here that the mastery of Marika and Sergio comes into play, just for that attention to wine production which is absolutely not to be taken for granted, thanks to the attention to the whole winemaking chain, which give life then to the five labels present in the azienda which supply some very interesting whites.
