The history and philosophy of Cantina Tollo
Cantina Tollo, founded in 1960, is a historic cooperative winery made up of 700 members, one of the most important companies in the Abruzzo wine sector that has contributed crucially to renewing the Italian wine scene.
The town of Tollo rises on a rounded hill at an altitude of 150 meters, in the province of Chieti, about 20 km from Pescara in Abruzzo. In this area the economy is based on the agricultural sector, in particular on the production of DOC wines such as Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, Pecorino and Passerina, which are in fact the backbone of Cantina Tollo’s wines.
Of note, in the wine sector, was the creation in 2008 of the DOC Tullum, one of the smallest in Italy and the first territorial denomination of Abruzzo, on an extremely limited area, only 300 hectares, and exclusively in the municipality of Tollo. In August 2019 it became Tullum DOCG, an important milestone for the Abruzzese wine world and for the Cantina Tollo Group.

The growing success of Cantina Tollo over the years has allowed the annexation of the Feudo Antico and Auramadre wineries. Today Cantina Tollo, which represents the parent company, boasts vineyards located between Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia. The Feudo Antico winery, on the other hand, is focused on the production of Tullum DOCG wines while Auramadre is a very ambitious project that boasts 200 hectares and is focused on promoting organic viticulture with a wide and multiregional range of wines.
The Philosophy of Cantina Tollo’s wines
Backed by sixty years of success, Cantina Tollo pursues a precise strategy: to constantly increase the quality of its wines, which are gaining more and more recognition both in Italy and abroad, paying more and more attention to health, safety and sustainability. .

This new line encourages the consumer to make a responsible choice, to love and respect the environment, and represents the perfect synthesis of the concept of sustainability according to the winery. As of 2016, organic wines are all certified vegan.
Cantina Tollo wines are present in all the most important national and international markets. The company is currently managed by a highly qualified staff and under the guidance of the President Tonino Verna, who carries on that passion, commitment and shared values, which are the guidelines that have always been followed by each contributing partner with the utmost respect for the environment and for the ecosystem.
The Terroir of Cantina Tollo wines
Cantina Tollo wines are produced starting from 2700 hectares of pergola vineyards, which extend from the hills of the coast to the slopes of the Apennines, on soils that are mostly clayey, sandy and sandstone, particularly rich in mineral nutrients.
These conditions allow Cantina Tollo wines to acquire a sensational character, also thanks to the climatic conditions, exposure and hard work in the vineyard and in the cellar. The production of Cantina Tollo wines is nothing short of amazing and is around 13 million bottles produced per year.
The grapes grown are the autochthonous: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Pecorino, Passerina, Cococciola, Cerasuolo that make up the different DOC and IGT of the area, as well as international grapes, which are added to the production of the wines of the range and complete the work in cellar, where the vocation is experimentation and where quality is not penalized by the great productivity of this company.
The wines of Cantina Tollo
The wines of Cantina Tollo are divided into a wide line that goes from reds to whites, from rosés and bubbles, and also boasts a line of organic and vegan wines, curated by 50 winemakers of the winery.
