Among the best wineries to visit in Chianti Classico, Castello di Fonterutoli, in Castellina in Chianti, in the province of Siena, cannot be missing.
Fonterutoli, one of the most evocative villages in the Chianti hills and one of the most steeped in history, is the ‘kingdom’ of the Marquises Mazzei, who have owned it since 1435.
Even today, after almost six centuries, the Mazzei family, under the guidance of Lapo, who manages the properties with his sons Filippo and Francesco, is dedicated to the wine business with a constant and innovative commitment in respect of the territory.
The new Fonterutoli winery has already been defined as ‘the most impressive in all of Chianti’. Of particular impact is the barrel cellar, with exposed rock walls. The wines produced are three Chianti Classico (Castello Fonterutoli, Fonterutoli and Ser Lapo) and two Igt (Siepi and Badiola). Undoubtedly among the best wineries in Chianti.
