Bolgheri Castle is located in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, in the province of Livorno, an imposing manor that rises scenically at the end of the famous Viale dei Cipressi, which the poet Gesuè Carducci praised in the famous poem “Davanti a San Guido”.

The Castle, currently owned by the Conti Zileri Dal Verme family, once belonged to the Conti della Gherardesca family, from the thirteenth century until 1895, has been placed on several occasions for restorations and improvements both for the building, and later for the construction of the cellars.

In addition to a structural and corporate renewal, all this led to an accumulation of styles, from Gothic to Neo-Gothic through the Renaissance.

Castello di Bolgheri wines are produced thanks to the agronomic work of Federico Zileri Dal Verme and the oenological consultancy of Alessandro Dondi and have an annual production of about 100,000 bottles.

The farm land of Castello di Bolgheri covers an area of 130 hectares, but about 60 hectares are involved in vineyards, the rest is cultivated with 6,000 olive trees, arable land and woods.

The soil on which the vines rest is of sandy, calcareous, clayey composition and stony skeleton, are located at an altitude of 70m above sea level, with a southwest exposure and enjoy a microclimate mitigated by sea breezes, a complex of factors that create the conditions for high quality production.

The vine varieties grown are those foreseen by the Bolgheri DOC disciplinary: Merlot, Syrah, Sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Petit verdot and Cabernet.

The winery of the company is located in the town of Bolgheri and the work is carried out with great attention to the most ancient traditions; there is also a wine shop where you can taste and buy the various products of the Bolgheri Castle.

The proposed line consists of two red wines: Castello di Bolgheri and Varvàra.

Both wines of Bordeaux origin and where the great attention to the hand-picking of the bunches and the selection of the grapes before destemming, leads to a very delicate vinification through pumping over and delestage, thanks also to the contact with the skins of approximately 20-25 days, and a fermentation carried out in steel vats.

The wines made from a base of Cabernet sauvignon grapes, with the addition of Merlot and Cabernet franc, give back on the whole all the characteristics of this territory, with their roundness, silkiness and elegance. The company also offers a production of excellent Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
