Castello di Vicarello

Castello di Vicarello

The Castello di Vicarello built in the XII century, today a marvelous company, boasts red wines of variety nations based on Sangiovese and international ones; among the company’s top wines are the Castello di Vicarello Rosso and Terre di Vico Toscana Rosso.

Castello di Vicarello’s History and Philosophy

Carlo Baccheschi Berti could easily be defined as a precursor. A very successful entrepreneur-trader, he has always enjoyed the best things in life, and of course, wine.

Like many of his peers he dreamed of creating his own wine, and to do so he decided to look for a property where his desires and ambitions could be satisfied. The choice, however, was certainly unusual, in an area that, at the time, was totally unknown and, in fact, had never been known for the production of wine. The town, Cinigiano , has now become trendy and is the home of many estates that are doing a good job, but this was unthinkable only a generation ago, when he started. Unusual, but very guessed, was also the choice of the property, once a watchtower for the Republic of Siena, which was renovated and brought to new life, until it became the current Small Luxury Hotel, a charming hotel, and an estate for planting vines, olive trees, plants.

The approach has been uncompromising since the beginning, a philosophy that can be found in the same vineyards, 9000 vines per acre planted at the beginning, over 14000 in more recent years. The cultivation method is the classic of the Mediterranean, the bushes are pruned at the top to achieve great results and minimal production both per hectare and per plant. Prestigious consultants have always been employed. Carlo is now helped by his firstborn Brando in the care of the whole estate and vineyards.

The wines of Castello di Vicarello

The house range includes Terre di Vico , a sweet blend of Sangiovese , the great grape of Tuscany , and Merlot from the right bank of Bordeaux. Castello di Vicarello combines an exceptional blend of Cabernet Franc , Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon , long, complex, luxurious, and tasty, with a final taste of berries and plums of Gironde, Merah , a sumptuous Sangiovese in purity and Santaurora , a rosé wine from bloodletting, 100% Malbec grapes. And even here, the philosophy of uncompromising could not be more obvious.
