Cavallotto Tenuta Bricco Boschis

(CASTIGLIONE FALLETTO – CUNEO) A winery that produces wines following ancient traditions. The offer of red wine, such as Barolo, and white wine, such as Chardonnay, is wide.

Cavallotto Tenuta Bricco Boschis’s History and Philosophy

The last quarter of a century was a turbulent period in Barolo : a triumphant success in international markets, something unexpected in an area where, until 1991, there was little difference between the price paid by the manufacturers for the Nebbiolo grape compared to that of Dolcetto ; then there was the emergence of an impressive number of new houses, labels and small producers who came to bottle wines that were once sold in bulk but also an impressive overall increase in the level of quality.

The most interesting novelty of that period, however, was the rise of a whole new school of producers who contested the oenological methods of the past and tried to impose an entirely new way of fermenting and aging the wine. The so-called “new Barolo” became, in fact, a very fashionable wine and few of the new producers in the area had the courage to oppose it. Three winemakers, however, have never wanted or tried to abandon the original sample or the initial methods of their family tradition, and they are Alfio , Giuseppe and Laura Cavallotto di Castiglione Falletto.

For them, loyalty to the past represented a well-deserved tribute to the distant generations of hard-working grower producers. It clearly helped the fact that their property was equipped with the classic hilly slopes facing south-west (in the past one of their Barolo offerings was called “Southwest Hill”) at excellent altitudes. Careful viticulture and work in the cellar did the rest, and the wines, even for critics and observers who prefer a more “international” approach, have gained increasing admiration in the new millennium.

The wines of Cavallotto Tenuta Bricco Boschis

Barolo Bricco Boschis and the two Riserva offerings, Vigna San Giuseppe and Vignolo, the last so called for an important figure in the past of Castiglione Falletto, are obviously the main wines of the house, but the whole line is of remarkable level: the rich and fruity Dolcetto Vigna Scot, an excellent Freisa, the large and generous Barbera d’Alba Vigna del Cucolo, and, surprisingly, a well-made Chardonnay from one of the coolest locations on the estate. A variety that is a true ode to tradition.
