Claudio Morelli

(FANO – PESARO AND URBINO) Claudio Morelli in Fano in the Marche produces territorial wines obtained from the native Bianchello del Metauro grape, but also from Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Cabernet and Vernaccia Rossa.

History of Claudio Morelli’s wines

Claudio Morelli’s wines are born in Fano, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche region. Part of the vineyards are located on hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea, which dominates the horizon at a distance of only 400 meters, while the other vineyards are facing inland towards the valley of the Metauro river, which gives its name to the renowned Bianchello wines from Metauro DOC.

As is well known, the most beautiful places are often also the most suitable for the production of wines of great identity. And it is in fact here that the winery was born in 1930, from the impulse of the grandfather of the current owner Claudio Morelli.

Over the years, thanks to the countless investments in modern technologies and the constant quality demonstrated, Claudio Morelli’s wines have become a point of reference among the prestigious wines of the Marche, with an annual production of around 110,000 bottles.

The Terroir of Claudio Morelli’s wines

Claudio Morelli’s wines are born from 22 hectares of vineyards located at altitudes varying between 80 and 250 meters above sea level and include the DOC Bianchello del Metauro and the DOC Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese, but also other IGT wines obtained from the Montepulciano and Cabernet vines. and Vernaccia Rossa.

The climate here is Mediterranean favored by the thermoregulatory action of the Adriatic Sea: the cool sea breeze mitigates the heat by caressing the vines in the summer months, while the Pesaresi Hills protect them in winter from north winds. The soils where Claudio Morelli’s wines are born are mainly clayey and sandy tuff, particularly rich in natural micronutrients.

All extremely favorable elements for an excellent ripening of the grapes that make Claudio Morelli’s wines rich, intense and with great olfactory expressiveness, characterized by savory mineral tones and sensational freshness.

The Philosophy of Claudio Morelli’s wines

Tradition is certainly an essential element in the production of Claudio Morelli’s wines, but tradition, as well as has been learned in the Marche region, to be effective cannot ignore the dialectic with the present.
It is for this reason that Claudio Morelli has undertaken important investments to promote the best cutting-edge technologies in order to be able to ensure quality wines, with constancy and precision, also thanks to the prestigious advice of the renowned winemaker Riccardo Cotarella.

Among the choices adopted for the production of Claudio Morelli’s wines is cryomaceration, a modern oenological technique that allows to maximize the organoleptic properties of wines thanks to the use of carbon dioxide in the form of dry ice.

The red grape varieties are fermented at controlled temperatures, with a meticulous choice of maceration times and refinements in steel and French oak barrels, to embellish the wines with expertly integrated spicy notes.

The company has also begun the process of converting to organic farming, which will see its first fruits as early as the 2021 harvest.

The Wines of Claudio Morelli

The production of Claudio Morelli’s wines is focused on the traditional wines of the Marche, in particular on the Bianchello del Metauro DOC denomination, but also Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Cabernet and Vernaccia Rossa.

Bianchello del Metauro is a very multifaceted variety counted among the most interesting Italian white grape varieties that is acquiring more and more charm and curiosity among those looking for wines with a true territorial character.

With the Bianchello del Metauro both fresh wines of great immediacy and sensational sapidity are produced but also unusual elegance such as the Bianchello del Metauro ‘Terrazzze’. It is a cru white wine obtained from the most suitable vineyard: it seduces on the nose with fresh notes of orange blossom, elderflower, embellished with nuances of Mediterranean scrub and salt.

Of particular interest among the red wines of Claudio Morelli is Sangiovese ‘Terrazze’ Colli Pesaresi, very engaging and fresh that presses thanks to its captivating aromas that recall small red fruits and floral and balsamic nuances.

Also very exciting is the ‘Mogliano’ Marche Rosso IGT, from Montepulciano grapes: A voluminous and elegant wine, with silky tannins and sensational aromatic persistence.

Among the wines of Claudio Morelli also the red wine Alius’ Cabernet Marche IGT should be considered, a whimsical wine that maximizes the varietal character of Cabernet, flanked by delicate woody notes conferred by the aging in barrique for 12 months. But Claudio Morelli’s line of wines is waiting to be discovered and once again testifies to the great expressive potential of the Marchigiano terroir.
