Drius Mauro

(CORMONS – GORIZIA) Mauro Drius  boasts vineyards that  extend from the hills of Monte Quarin to the plains of Alto Isonzo, with which he produces excellent quality white wine such as Vigni di Siris, Friulano and Pinot Bianco.

Drius Mauro’s History and Philosophy

Without a doubt, today  Cormons  could be considered as the privileged access route in the main production area of the best tasting white wines from  Friuli  (and, in a certain sense, from Italy), Collio Friulano. Further to the west are the historical places of the region for  Bordeaux  and  Refosco , or San Giovanni al Natisone and then Manzano, Rosazzo, Oleis, and Buttrio. But it was precisely in  Cormons  and in the neighboring towns that, almost two generations ago, a new way of producing white wines was established. They were no longer fermented with their skins, but with clean musts and at rather cool temperatures.

These offerings proved revolutionary in their freshness, fragrance, intensity and persistence. And even today 80% of the Collio denomination consists of dry white wines, a confirmation of the validity of the new methodology. Cormons , however, has a double nature, as the highly representative wines of Mauro Drius well demonstrate. In the north of the city, which includes the inhabited part up to the border with Slovenia , viticulture is carried out on the slopes of the hills. But south of the SR 56 road, which from Cormons reaches Gorizia, the landscape flattens and the soil also changes, the rock becomes sandy and the marl of the hills turns into pebbles deposited over the millennia by the Isonzo river, which flows south. Drius boasts vineyards in both areas.

The wines of Drius Mauro

It is part of that selected group of producers who have consecrated this area, giving it new credibility and prestige despite the fact that in the past it was considered only suitable for the production of table wines. 1998 was the watershed year in which Mauro Drius , who until then had dealt with both his vineyards and cattle breeding, decided to devote his energies exclusively to the family vineyards. About 15 hectares of vineyards are currently cultivated and extend from the hills of Monte Quarin to the plain of Alto Isonzo . The classic white wines of Cormons are well represented by the portfolio of the brand, but some selected positions also offer Cabernets andWell made and varietal Merlot . Vignis di Siris , a blend of Pinot Blanc , Friulano and Sauvignon , offers Mauro Drius the opportunity to demonstrate his creativity and sensitivity.
