Fattoria Le Terrazze

Fattoria Le Terrazze

(NUMANA – ANCONA) Antonio Terni has a real vocation for the creation of quality Italian wines. In Numana, in the Marche, it produces Chaos red wines, a blend of Montepulciano, Cabernet, Merlot, and Sassi Neri, a 100% Montepulciano.

Fattoria Le Terrazze’s History and Philosophy

Interesting life stories are by no means unusual in the new panorama of quality Italian wine . “Nuovo” is a necessary adjective: unlike France and Germany, countries with a solid and constant wine history, Italy has seen a huge amount of investments to establish new wineries in areas with a certain history, but with little tradition quality, as well as other investments in areas without history or tradition of any kind. And many of these investors have come to wine after a successful career in other sectors of activity, bringing with them, together with capital, new ideas and a new dynamism.

Antonio Terni , on the other hand, has an interesting and unusual biography on his own, one that does not fall into any established category. Following the racial laws during the Mussolini regime, the Terni family, a Jewish family, decided it was time to leave their home country and move to Argentina. It is here that the young Terni lived until he finally moved to Milan to complete his studies in the field of nuclear physics.

All is well what ends well, one might say, but Terni did not find a career as a physicist of particular importance and decided to return to Numana , a city on the Adriatic coast below Ancona where his family owned a country property. Making wine on one’s own land had always been part of country life in Italy, but in the case of Terni it became a true vocation, and the decision not only to make, but to aim high was soon undertaken, also helped by his wife Georgina who from a purely administrative role she came to discuss and share all the corporate choices.

The wines of Fattoria Le Terrazze

The technical advice regarding both the vineyard and the cellar has been entrusted for some years to the Piedmontese Federico Curtaz. And this is how the wines of Fattoria Le Terrazze quickly became points of reference for the Rosso Conero denomination; a great success not only in the Marche region, as evidenced by the request and hospitality given to them by a series of important markets. Regular bottling has become known for the pleasure it gives to drinking, but far greater is the enthusiasm aroused by Chaos, a blend of Montepulciano, Syrah, Merlot, while Sassi Neri, has established itself as an exceptional example of Montepulciano in its purest form.
