Fattoria Lornano

Fattoria Lornano

In the Sienese Chianti Classico the Fattoria Lornano winery of the Pozzoli family produces high-level Sangiovese-based wines. It produces red wines such as Commendatore Enrico and Chianti Classico Riserva Le Banite.

Fattoria Lornano’s History and Philosophy

For Chianti Classico refers to the viticulturale area that develops between Florence and Siena , a territory that for centuries has been shown to be capable of producing wines made from Sangiovese at the highest level. In reality this area is very heterogeneous, and is often divided between “Florentine” Chianti Classico, produced north of Florence and its provinces, and “Sienese” Chianti Classico, produced further south.

But this attempt to further define the viticultural geography does not adequately explain the diversity of the soils: geological and exposure differences to which the enormous differences in altitude are added: it goes from 300 meters in the Greve area to 600 meters in Lamole, in the area Florentine, and ranges from 500-600 meters in numerous points of Castellina, Radda and Gaiole to 300 meters, or perhaps less, in the vineyards facing further south or west of the province of Siena.

The Lornano company, located on the border between Castellina in Chianti and Monteriggioni , owned by the Pozzoli family for generations and members of the Chianti Classico Consortium since its foundation in 1924, provides an illustrious example of what can be achieved with grapes grown on the slopes warm and sunny located in the final part of the denomination. The altitude, approximately 300 meters above sea level, allows the area that opens towards the horizon to benefit from a gentle breeze, without any type of obstacle and ensuring freshness, fragrance and general health in the harvest.

The wines of Fattoria Lornano

The extension of the vineyards is remarkable, close to 50 hectares and ensures a wide choice in the selection of grapes for the various offerings of the line, and the vinification is under the qualified supervision of Franco Bernabei, now flanked by his talented son Matteo. Sangiovese represents 80% of the vineyard surface and is increasingly at the center of the attention of the owners and technical staff, even if Commendatore Enrico is undoubtedly a high quality example of a blend of Tuscan and international grapes. Even better and certainly more typical is the Chianti Classico Riserva Le Bandite, energetic, elegant and elastic. In a word, truly “classic”.
