Feudi del Pisciotto

(NISCEMI – CALTANISSETTA) Feudi del Pisciotto is a winery located in Sicily, producing an excellent Nero d’Avola and Merlot.

Feudi del Pisciotto’s History and Philosophy

Feudi del Pisciotto is located in what might be called a magic triangle in the center-southeast of Sicily. To the north are Caltagirone and Caltanissetta, to the west Agrigento, and to the south the seaand its tempering influence, moderating the high temperatures of this classically Mediterranean area, cooling it during the evenings and nights, and bathing the countryside with its refreshing breezes. Vineyards have always been an important part of the landscape, and request for the high class Inzolia and Nero d’Avola have never been lacking.

In the past, however, high percentage of these grapes and wine always went to the cooperative wineries and the large négociant houses which monopolized the production and marketing of Sicilian wine up until the 1990’s. Much has changed since then, the potential of this part of the island could not have gone unnoticed forever. Important estates have sprung up, and among the leading names is that of Feudi del Pisciotto, located near the beautiful Nature Riserva Orientata Bosco di Sughereta, whose many acres remind us of what was once the largest cork oak forest of central Sicily.

The wines of Feudi del Pisciotto

The proprietor of the estate, Paolo Panerai, a major figure in the world of Italian communication as a publisher, is also a man of wine, and his two Tuscan properties, Castellare di Castellina in Chianti Classico and Rocca di Frassinello on the Tuscan coast, are recognized leaders in their areas. It is only logical, accordingly, that his investment at Niscemi has attracted much interest and that the wines have been an important success.

The line could be said to be divided into two parts: first Baglio del Sole, based principally (there is also a Merlot-Syrah blend) on native Sicilian grapes, and second a group of wines produced principally from international varieties.

This latter series is dedicated to leading figures in the world of Italian fashion and includes such names as Gianfranco Ferré, Alberta Ferretti, Carolina Marengo, Missoni, Valentino, and Versace; the grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Sémillon, and Viognier along with Grillo and Frappato. An extensive range indeed, produced under the watchful eye of Alessandro Cellai, Panerai’s historic director and winemaker.
