Fornacina

(MONTALCINO) The Fornacina company owned by the Biliorsi family produces in Montalcino Tuscan red wines of great traditional and authentic character, including the famous Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino.

The history of Fornacina wines

One would think that in Montalcino, being such a defined and historicized reality, there is no room for research and innovation and that everything must remain as it has always been.

But for Fornacina wines this is not the case at all. In fact, there are countless innovations: from plant systems, to winemaking techniques, to the contribution of technology in general that can contribute in terms of quality to Montalcino wines.

The great mastery of Fornacina wines is expressed here: in the ability to know how to keep in the wake of tradition, and be able to embellish it with great critical spirit with the tools of the present.

Fornacina was born in 1981 thanks to the impulse of Ruggero Biliorsi and is now coordinated by Simone, assisted by his brother Mauro and by the technical consultancy of the Enologist Attilio Pagli and the agronomist Folco Giovanni Bencini.

To date, the company has 5 hectares and boasts an average production of about 22 thousand bottles per year, highly appreciated among the excellence of Montalcino, especially among consumers looking for wines with an artisanal, territorial and authentic character.

The Philosophy of the Wines of Fornacina

Respect for the environment and biodiversity are certainly two key elements in the production of Fornacina wines. In fact, the company not only boasts a certified organic production since 2004, but also regularly undergoes I.C.E.A (Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification) inspections.

Another essential aspect for the production of Fornacina is the idea of creating sincere wines, which become narrators of the territory of origin in its specific soil and climate and in the different vintages.

For this reason Fornacina adopts very low yields in the vineyard and a rigorous manual selection of the grapes to bring only first quality raw material to the cellar. Furthermore, Fornacina wines are all aged in large barrels, as in the tradition of Montalcino, in order to enhance, but not mask, the varietal character of Sangiovese.

These are essential prerequisites for not having to intervene with invasive corrective agents during the vinification phase, but to let the top quality grapes speak for themselves.

Terroir of Fornacina wines

The vineyards are located: over 5 hectares of vineyards located on the southern side of Montalcino, at altitudes of 400 m.s.l.m. , south-east exposure and clayey-calcareous soils, particularly rich in mineral micronutrients. Ideal conditions to give the wines a great polyphenolic outfit, depth and complexity especially to red wines.

The climate is Mediterranean and favored by the altitudes, which favor good temperature excursions, providential for the fineness of the aromas of the grapes.

These characteristics of the terroir, particularly favorable, give the Fornacina wines a rare elegance, character and potential for evolution.

Fornacina wines

Fornacina wines are divided into three well-defined labels: Brunello di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva and Rosso di Montalcino.

The pride of the Fornacina wines is the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG which expresses all the strength and power of the wine; Fruity, elegant and gentle on the nose, with an impetuous impact, given by the harmonious blend of all the components, alcohol, tannins, body.

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva is instead produced only in the best vintages and boasts a prolonged refinement, which makes the tannins more silky and embellishes the bouquet with elegant tertiary notes. Among the Fornacina wines also the Rosso di Montalcino DOC is of great interest, with a more immediate character, great freshness and excellent potential with the gastronomic combination. Above all, the master hand of the oenologist Attilio Pagli.

Fornacina wines are characterized by great character and combine great olfactory finesse, flavor and richness on the palate. A further testimony of the extraordinary enological potential of the Montalcino terroir.
