Franz Haas’s History and Philosophy

A certain stubbornness and impatience are natural characteristics of a creative figure. Staying on your laurels is not a good formula for developing success and skills, but you must have the prospect of ever-improving growth. Franz Haas , a prominent figure in the panorama of viticulture in South Tyrol , known in Germany as Südtirol , is a man who pursues the ambition to constantly improve and refine the many wines he produces in his wide, especially for the region, properties in the mountains, in the southernmost area of his native region. This producer has a certain tradition in preserving and enhancing the peculiarities of individual vines. Founded in 1880, the company is now run by the generation week with around 55 hectares of vineyards divided between properties, land for rent and grapes.

The vineyards all have a south-west and south exposure and are located in four municipalities surrounding the winery. Despite its position close to the border line with the province of Trento, it would be a mistake to consider the vineyards in a warm climate. Montagna is developed in altitude as well as the vineyard plots that go up to 1150 above sea level and Franz Haas is particularly convinced of the positive effects that a greater temperature range can have on the ripening of the grapes. Especially in terms of fragrance and finesse, elements that are immediately recognizable in wines such as Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon , not to mention Pinot Noir . The Pinot Noir Schweizer , on the other hand, is the 100% Pinot Noir selection in which the best matches of this grape variety come together for each vintage.
