Gamba

(VALGATARA – VERONA) In the hills of Valpolicella the Gamba company produces excellent Italian wines such as Amarone della Valpolicella, Recioto or the legendary Amarone Campedel Riserva, red wine which is a source of pride for Veneto and Italy.

Gamba’s History and Terroir

We are in Veneto in Marano di Valpolicella, where the Gamba Company is based, from which you can admire the Marano Valley which is about 18 kilometers from Verona, in a north-western direction with respect to the provincial capital, and is part of Valpolicella, one of the most renowned area for Italian wine production, famous for Amarone among the great Italian wines of international fame.

A wine, Amarone, also the undisputed protagonist of the Gamba winery: Amarone Campedel, intense and full-bodied, is produced from the grapes that make up the over six hectares owned by the company, which grapes make up the finest wines of this cellar and are placed on the Campedel vineyard located 300 meters above sea level and arranged in terraces and resting on the suggestive hills of Valponicella, a soil that is purely limestone-clay, with a presence of dip in the lower layers that allows the vineyards to withstand periods of drought.

The Philosophy of the wines of Gamba

The merit of this wine reality goes to the management of the brothers Giovanni, Giuseppe and Martino Aldrighetti and to a tradition that for generations has been dealing with wine and viticulture with passion, competence and that foresight in always keeping up with the times, which makes the difference of a cellar over time. Just think of the training system, with new guyot and pergola systems with a density of 4000-4500 vines per hectare, for a yield of 70-80 quintals / ha, depending on the year. The grapes that make up the line of wines, which are expertly processed in the cellar, are the autochthonous ones of the Verona area: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Croatina, Oseleta and Molinara, all grapes, which are the basis of wines such as example the Amarone della Valpolicella, Recioto della Valpolicella signed Gamba and which are the soul of this company.

The wines of Gamba

In fact, Corvina is a black grape variety, fundamental base for Valpolicella wines, different is Corvinone which in the past was confused with the more famous Corvina, but which has only recently gained its independence; the rondinella, on the other hand, is considered ideal for the production of Recioto, thanks to its sugar capacity, while the Croatina is a black grape variety, present mainly in the Oltrepò Pavese and Piacentino, to a lesser extent in Piedmont and Veneto, but in the company it is used in different quantities for various wines such as Rosso Veronese Le Quare; then there is Oseleta, widespread in Valpolicella since ancient times, it seems that it is so called because its grapes are very popular with birds, in fact in the Venetian dialect “osei” means birds; and finally the Molinara black grape variety that is used in a complementary way but, since 2003, not mandatory in the blend of wines produced in the Valpolicella area.

Gamba is a company that has managed to maintain quality and tradition over time thanks to quality raw materials and high competence in the cellar, so much so that the range offered is well organized and varied, in addition to the Campedel line with its perfect Amarone della Valpolicella, Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore and Campedel Igt, also presents the Le Quare line with: Amarone Valpolicella, Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore, Valpolicella Classico, Recioto della Valpolicella and Rosso Veronese.
