I Balzini

I Balzini

In the Barberino Val d’Elsa area, the D’Isanto family produces red and white wines from the hills of central Tuscany. The most famous are the Black Label red wine, from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and the White Label white wine, from Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese.

I Balzini’s History and Philosophy

Barberino Val d’Elsa is a classic example of a village with a dual personality. A part of its territory is located within the borders of the Chianti Classico denomination , while another produces wines under that of Chianti Colli Fiorentini . In this area, where the winemaking tradition has very ancient roots, Vincenzo D’Isanto at the end of the 70s, animated by a great passion for wine and by the desire to create a product of personality and elegance, bought the land registry property called I Balzini .

Used in Tuscany to define the small “crags” that morphologically characterize the territory, it is already from the name I Balzini that one can guess the peculiarities of the vineyards, in strong slope; draining soil based on yellow sands alternating with clay, considerable presence of marine fossils, favorable exposure of the vineyards: sunny with decisive temperature excursions between day and night, we are 250 meters above sea level Here D’Isanto also planted allochthonous vines – Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot – and, although starting as a simple amateur, he had the foresight to entrust the vinification to an expert and capable professional, Giulio Gambelli, native of Poggibonsi, taster and wine technician of great Tuscan wines. In the last ten years the oenological part has been entrusted to the winemaker Barbara Tamburini while the agronomist Roberto Lamorgese takes care of the agricultural part.

The wines of I Balzini

The wines of I Balzini are immediately able to get noticed in the wine scene gaining high scores and awards between Sommeliers and experts in the sector but it is only in the 2000s that this peculiar reality takes on the typical characteristics of a structured and productive company, when his wife Antonella decides to leave her professional activity and devote herself enthusiastically to the world of viticulture. First alone, then with her daughter Diana , Antonella’s commitment focuses on the production of wines as a strong expression of the territory. Two Supertuscans characterize the top level part of the offer, bottles that compete really well with the excellence of Tuscany: I Balzini White Label , with Sangioveseand Cabernet Sauvignon and I Balzini Black Label , based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot . Over time Antonella expands the range of labels with new colors; pink for rosé ( I Balzini Pink Label ), green for a lively indigenous blend based on Sangiovese and Mammolo, vinified in steel (I Balzini Green Label), and red for a well-structured and easy blend aged for a short time in barrique (The Balzini Red Label).

To the care for the production, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, and the obsessive attention to the quality of the products – from the processing up to every single cap -, Antonella also promotes the hiring of practices with zero environmental impact. Organic agriculture, eco-sustainable packaging, use of renewable energies, a zero energy debt cellar. The result, excellent wines, pleasant and able to guarantee the greeting of consumers and respect for the environment.
