(DOLEGNA DEL COLLIO – GORIZIA) Thanks to his resourcefulness, Silvio Jermann managed to shape all the local grapes such as Sauvignon Chardonnay Ribolla Gialla Malvasia Istriana Picolit, transforming them into his fine wines such as Capo Martina Vignatruss W … Dreams …  and  Vintage Tunina.

Cantina Jermann’s History and Philosophy

Silvio Jermann , a boy at the time, must have felt completely out of place in the numb wine panorama of Friuli in 1970. Heir of a family who left the Austrian wine region of Burgenland and then the vineyards in Slovenia to take root in Friuli Venezia Giulia in 1881. Jermann had studied at the Oenological School of Conegliano, before returning home with decidedly original ideas on wine and thanks to his genius and imagination, starting from the seventies he gave an epochal turning point, bringing the company to the Italian top and then the world cup of wine.

The father did not share this desire for radical change, and therefore the young Jermann left for Canada , but only to return with new horizons, and also more solid convictions on the road he wanted to take, and the unshakable ideas about the wines he intended to carry on. A stubbornness, if you will, that paid off in a big way, as the new wines that had begun to make began to shake consolidated beliefs about what the wines of Friuli could and should be. The classic varietal wines, well made and expressive, were there, but did not boast a particular creative interest, he started the fashion of blends. The first was Vintage Tunina , a wine made from Sauvignon , Chardonnay grapes, Ribolla Gialla , Malvasia Istriana , Picolit . The name Tunina refers to the old owner of the land on which the original vineyard is located and is dedicated to the poorest lover of Casanova, who was a housekeeper in Venice who, in fact, was also called Tunina (Antonia).

The wines of Cantina Jermann

The first tests of the grapes date back to the 1973 vintage and the first vintage put on sale with this name and this label was the 1975 vintage. Just to demonstrate that it was possible to make varietal wines of true excellence, Jermann created, in 1987, a Chardonnay 100% to which it gave the name, which then underwent many variations, of ” Where Dreams Have No End “. It also ended up at the top of the rankings in the numerous markets where Jermann sold his wines. From its humble origins, the house has now reached 160 hectares of vineyards, 40 of which in the new Rutars area. A splendid state-of-the art cellar. inaugurated on 07/07/07, built and equipped with the technology to achieve maximum results for the best wines: Capo Martino , Vignatruss, W … Dreams … and Vintage Tunina .
