Lo Zoccolaio’s History and Philosophy

Barolo is one of the most prestigious winemaking realities in Italy and the vineyards of the Boschetti hill are among the most beautiful and suggestive, if Barolo is the heart of the Langhe, this hill is the heart of this ancient village, nestled on a small plateau, protected by the surrounding reliefs, which create a fascinating landscape, where time seems to stand still.

Cascina Lo Zoccolaio has its neat rows, full of luxuriant bunches, which ripen in the shadow of the Marquis Falletti castle, right on the Boschetti hill. One cannot fail to mention an element that in different cultures symbolizes knowledge and life, the White Poplar, which is represented by the company logo, this was a typical custom used in old farmhouses, that is to plant a large tree in the center of the courtyard, which it served to offer shade and shelter on summer days.

The roots are always at the base of the Piedmontese culture, and the agricultural practice for the vineyards of this company is no exception, 26 hectares that are treated with rigor and passion, in the different municipalities of Barolo, Verduno, Monforte d’Alba and Novello, and of which about 11 and more, are dedicated to the Nebbiolo variety, from which Barolo Riserva and Barolo Ravera Riserva are produced.
It goes without saying that here, the soil, climate and exposure are perfect, and that the grapes used are the native Piedmontese Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, in addition to the international Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, grape varieties originating in the Bordeaux area, which especially for the last two concur in the assembly of Baccanera. The harvest is done by hand, without haste, selecting the best bunches to be expressed in the bottle and in the cellar the choice follows the progressive technological evolution, but the peculiarity is the use only of small capacity oak.

The range offered includes fine wines such as the classic Barolo Docg, the structured and complex Barolo Ravera, the solemn and voluminous Barolo Ravera Riserva, the Nebbiolo d’Alba Nubiè, the fresh and enveloping Barbera d’Alba Superiore Suculè, the soft Dolcetto d ‘Alba DJ Sagrìn, the intense and spicy Langhe DOC Rosso Baccanera and the elegant 100% Pinot Noir Re Noir, Pinot Noir is not easy to process, but which is exalted with great skill in this wine.

Cascina Lo Zoccolaio is one of the three generation brands of one of the largest family-run Italian wineries, the Martini family, a reality that has been active since 1947.
