Tenuta Maffone’s History and Philosophy
Pieve di Teco is an ancient village in the province of Imperia in Liguria, immersed in the Arroscia Valley which presents breathtaking landscapes. Here is located the Tenuta Maffone born in 2009 and managed by Bruno and Eliana in the production area within the DOC Riviera Ligure di Ponente “, which obtained recognition in 1988.
The territory on which the inherited vineyards are planted, is unique, obviously difficult, and heroic viticulture is carried out, done with mechanical means and still with many hours of manual work, but where the particular microclimate makes the winds marine alternating with those who descend from Alpine and Apennine peaks, since we are right on the border between two mountain ranges, makes the very climate favorable, warm, dry days and cool night, wide temperature range , that give these wines perfumes unique.
The cultivated vines, aged between 60 and 100 years and placed at an altitude betweenthe 500/700 m asl, are the Vermentino of the Dianesi hills and the native Ormeasco and Pigato. The Ormeasco is one of the flagships of the company, a grape whose traces date back to the time of the Saracens and which has found its ideal habitat in this area. The cultivation reflects the traditional practice of the place, but with extreme care in respect of the environment and without the use of herbicides and chemical fertilizers, carefully taking care of their biodiversity.
The wines of Tenuta Maffone
In the cellar the work is taken care of and followed, and the attention is also placed on new vinifications of the Ormeasco. In fact, in 2012 Bruno started a project for the sparkling wine production of the Ormeasco under the careful guidance of the winemaker Marco Biglino.
La linea proposta è ben articolata, premiata, in oltre, in vari ambiti di settore e offre vini bianchi versatili e rossi di carattere deciso. Come il brillante bianco Riviera Ligure di Ponente Pigato Doc e i rossi Ormeasco di Pornassio D.O.C., intenso e ricco di profumi e il Ormeasco di Pornassio D.O.C. Superiore, ampio e persistente. Dal progetto iniziato nel 2012 per la spumantizzazione dell’ Ormeasco, è nata la prima etichetta nel 2014 di Spumate Metodo Classico 2 Luglio, un successo che consacra questo particolare e interessante vitigno. Nella linea è presente un Passito di rara qualità, prodotto da uve lasciate sui graticci fino a gennaio e raccolte manualmente l’Ormeasco Passito.
