Malvirà

(CANALE – CUNEO) The Malverà winery in Canale d’Alba in the Roero area produces wines from Nebbiolo and Arneis grapes. The Roero Riserva Trinità is excellent.

Malvirà’s History and Terroir

How to describe the Roero area, one of the Piedmontese, national and international wine excellences, as well as Unesco heritage? In short, Roero is an incredible landscape synthesis capable of making you appreciate the different facets of the twin territory of the most renowned Langhe and where wines such as Roero Docg, obtained from Nebbiolo grapes and Roero Arneis Docg obtained from Arneis grapes in purity, stand out. Last among the most important whites of Piedmont, whose name derives from the Renesio locality, near Canale d’Alba, and it is in Canale d’Alba in the province of Cuneo that the Malverà Agricultural Company is based.

Malvirà’s Philosophy

To understand the specificity and the wide range of labels produced by this company, founded by Giuseppe Damonte in the 1950s and currently managed by his sons Massimo and Roberto Damonte, who represent the second generation and soon the third will also begin to collaborate, it is necessary to understand well How the different company vineyards are divided, which are the foundations of the processing of wines and grapes, with plants reaching up to 80 years of age, which make this company a significant reality in the Canalese territory.

Malvirà Wines

In fact, the 42 hectares of vineyards composed of sandy, clayey or calcareous soils, with ideal exposures and altitudes for the perfect ripening and processing of the grapes, are divided into seven different plots in which the native grapes of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Arneis are grown, But also the international Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling, from which wines with different souls and characteristics are then produced, awarded and recognized by the best experts and magazines in the sector.

From the 14 hectares of the Trinità vineyard you have belonged to the family since 1986, cultivated with Nebbiolo and Arneis, the Bianco Arneis Trinità is obtained, with fresh citrus notes and iodized mineral suggestions, and the Rosso Roero Riserva Trinità, with clear and intense fruit, very thick tannins And enveloping, while from the Renesio vineyard located in Canale, of about 4.5 hectares, also cultivated with Arneis and Nebbiolo, two completely dissimilar wines are produced: Bianco Roero Arneis Renesio and Rosso Roero Riserva Renesio, both however characterized by great structure at Palate and eloquent aromas on the nose.

Instead, on the hill in front of the company, in the 4 hectares of the Saglietto vineyard, whose property dates back to the early 2000s, Sauvignon Blanc and Arneis are grown, from which Roero Arneis Classico and Langhe Treuve are produced. Then follows with 2.5 hectares the San Michele Vineyard which dates back to 1929 and is located on the historic hill of Canale, cultivated with Barbera, from which the long-limbed red Barbera d’Alba San Michele is produced, highly drinkable and engaging.

Among these 7 vineyards is the San Guglielmo Vineyard, of about 3 hectares, the oldest, owned by the maternal grandfather Giacomo who planted Barbera, Bonarda Piemontese and Nebbiolo, and still today the wine is vinified with the same characteristics as then and borders on The Trinità vineyard. While the wines with great aging potential come from the 1.5 hectares of the Mombeltramo vineyard, grown only with Nebbiolo grapes. From here we get the red Roero Riserva Mombeltramo, an excellent gastronomic wine, with great structure, character and balance.

And finally the small and last Vigneto il Boiolo, replanted and of about 0.89 hectares, purchased in 2007 in the Municipality of La Morra, from which the Barolo DOCG is made, an elegant and opulent wine of great finesse and persistence.

An important variety of grapes and wines to cultivate and produce, which this company, but above all this family, has been carrying out over the years respecting the great Piedmontese winemaking tradition, assisted by technological innovation and continuous research. It should be noted that the Damonte family, in addition to the activities of the Malverà winery, also manages the Villa Tiboldi farmhouse and its restaurant.
