Marco Felluga – Russiz Superiore

(CAPRIVA DEL FRIULI – GORIZIA) Felluga is an important name for Friuli and for Italy. Marco Felluga, the founder, is now helped by Roberto in producing excellent white wines such as Collio Col Disore or Russiz Superiore Sauvignon Collio Riserva.

Marco Felluga – Russiz Superiore’s History and Philosophy

Passion, experience and farsightedness describe the relationship between the world of wine and Roberto Felluga’s family.
A relationship that began over one hundred and fifty years ago, in Istria, the land of origin of what can be considered a dynasty of winemakers who has been able to enhance the potential of some grapes and territories suited to the vine.

Marco Felluga, penultimate of Giovanni’s seven children, founded the company of the same name in 1956. The path of innovation, quality and research is due to him. The balance with which he managed to use innovation and tradition has made his company a point of reference for the whole territory. Today, the two prestigious companies are based in the Collio Goriziano; although specialized in the production of white wines, as required by the Friulian wine tradition, the quality of red wines, both native and international, is high. With a great structure, they lend themselves to long aging.

The headquarters of the Marco Felluga company is in Gradisca d’Isonzo, the characteristic fifteenth-century fortified citadel built by the Serenissima Republic of Venice, once surrounded by walls designed by Leonardo da Vinci, which opens the doors to the Collio of Gorizia. The Marco Felluga vineyards extend for 120 hectares, between ownership and management, in the municipalities of Farra, San Floriano, Oslavia and Cormons, with a greater production of white wines.

In the Collio Goriziano, in the municipality of Capriva del Friuli, the Russiz Superiore estate extends instead, whose history dates back to Roman times, while the name originates from the denomination of the hills on which the vineyards extend. The eagle, symbol of the company, derives from the emblem that belonged to the princes of Torre Tasso, one of the first lords of these lands, who arrived in Friuli in 1273.

Of the 100 hectares owned, 50 are cultivated with vineyards, with a planting density of over 6,000 vines per hectare and a production of white wines superior to the red ones. The different vines find an environment with special geomorphological and climatic characteristics on the hills of Russiz Superiore: the soil, formed during the Eocene, presents an alternation of marls (limes and limestone clays) and sandstones (cemented sands) and is particularly waterproof.
