PINOT NERO IN TRENTINO SOUTH TYROL

Mazon

Pinot Noir is a black grape variety originating from Burgundy, known throughout the world for its hostile and seductive nature.
It is in fact an extremely sensitive vine to the terroir, but if grown in the right conditions it is capable of giving light to wines that are the quintessence of elegance.
In Trentino Alto Adige Pinot Noir has found an ideal habitat, thanks to the presence of calcareous-clayey soils and cool and windy climates. The history of Pinot Noir in South Tyrol is inextricably linked to the genius loci Ludwig Barth von Barthenau, who sensing the potential of the Mazon plateau (east bank of the Adige valley) decided to import it from France.

The following century Paolo Foradori Hofstätter became its interpreter and, inspired by Burgundy, he was able to exalt the territory and the grape variety to the maximum with vinification in purity and classifications for the specific terroirs as in the famous Vigna S. Urbano, planted in 1942.

Among the best and most suitable areas for the production of Pinot Nero wines that we can find in Trentino Alto Adige: the Mazzon plateau, in the municipality of Egna, is undoubtedly one of the best territories in the world for the production of Pinot Noir. Excellent results are also achieved in the surroundings of Montagna, Appiano Monte and Cornaiano, all in Bassa Atesina.
