Molino Di Sant’Antimo’s History and Terroir

Experience, in some fields, is an idea somewhat difficult to delineate, a mix of tangible and intangible qualities. In the field of wine it is a rather easy concept to define: it consists of an in-depth knowledge and internalization of the various aspects concerning the production of a certain level, the knowledge of how to grow the vine, the various activities in the vineyard that must be carried out with precision and punctuality. To all this is added the awareness of when the right ripening of the grapes was obtained and it is time to start harvesting it. And finally, the experience of how to ferment grapes, extracting what is necessary, but without ever exaggerating, as in the case of aging, neither too long nor too short, and without exaggerating in its use,

One figure who can certainly boast an experience of this type is Carlo Vittori , who worked in Montalcinofor over three decades. First as a consultant and supervisor of important companies, wines and well-known names that helped create the reputation of the denomination. But, as for many other professionals deeply involved in the vineyards and cellars of other people, he strongly felt the dream of becoming his own producer, a project that, step by step, came true. The first step was the purchase of vineyards, which now amount to about 10 hectares, and the choice was carefully considered and winning: the hottest part of the denomination to the south with a higher exposure from south to south-east and a height ideal (200-300 meters above sea level). A farmhouse was restored and modernized for his family, and at the same time a cellar with the best modern technology was built and equipped.

The wines of Molino Di Sant’Antimo

The collaboration with the talented winemaker Maurizio Saettini completed the puzzle, and the wines, from the beginning of a high level, are now taken care of by Valeria Vittori, daughter of Carlo and Susanna and since she was a little passionate about the work of her father, who contributed to make the wines of Molino Sant’Antimo count among the best in the area: both the interesting international wines, produced by Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but a special place have red specimens produced from Sangiovese, a grape that Vittori knows how their pockets.
