Montecappone

(JESI – ANCONA) Montecappone produces wines in Jesi. Of particular interest are the excellent wines obtained from Verdicchio, including the award-winning Utopia di Castello di Jesi wine which is the flagship.

The history of Montecappone wines

Montecappone was founded in the late 1960s in Jesi by the grandfather of the current producer together with other partners.

In 1997 the company was taken over entirely by the Bomprezzo-Mirizzi family (already owners of the homonymous Enoteca in Rome for over 50 years), and immediately began the renovation and expansion of the cellar and the renewal of almost all the vineyards.

Montecappone wines are born thanks to a winemaking cellar equipped with all the most modern technologies useful to enhance the great quality of the raw material. The goal is to make the most of the quality of the grapes grown: Verdicchio and Sauvignon for the whites, Montepulciano for the reds.

To date, Montecappone wines are produced from 46 hectares of vineyards on the hills of Jesi, with an annual production of approximately 180,000 bottles per year. The company also has 12 hectares of olive groves from which 4 different expressions of Extra Virgin Olive Oil are born.

The Philosophy of Montecappone wines

Montecappone is one of the few wineries in the Marche region managed directly by the owners, who produce and sparkle their own grapes internally. Montecappone wines, originally bottled, are obtained from careful selection in the vineyard, low production per hectare and experimentation both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

The company is also assisted by the technical support of the oenologist Lorenzo Landi, who has led the internal staff of agronomists and oenologists for over 20 years.

The philosophy of Montecappone wines, led by Gianluca Mirizzi, consists in being at the service of the territory, trying to enhance it in a neutral and sincere way.

Wines of Montecappone

Montecappone wines are divided into about fifteen different company labels, including white, red, rosé, sparkling and sweet wines. Of particular interest among the wines of Montecappone are the award-winning ones obtained from Verdicchio, one of the most versatile and appreciated Italian white grape varieties. In fact, Verdicchio gives life to both fresh, savory and immediate wines, suitable for daily consumption, and wines of rare elegance, olfactory complexity and aging potential.

Among the white wines of Montecappone stand out Utopia (Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Classico Riserva Docg) and Federico II A.D. 1194 (Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore). But in the production of Montecappone white wines there are also Tabano (White Wine), La Breccia (Marche IGT Sauvignon) and a Verdicchio Classico.

Among the wines of Montecappone there are also three reds: Tabano and Utopia, both Marche IGT Rosso, and the Rosso Piceno wine. The range of Montecappone wines is completed by two sparkling wines Spumante Passerina Brut and Spumante Sauvignon IGT, the rosé Muntobe and the two sweet wines Ákinos and Kylix Marche Igt Passito from botrytised grapes.
