Palladino’s history and philosophy

palladino

The company was started in 1974 by Piero Palladino, who entrusted its management to his cousin and partner Maurilio, helped by his wife Domenica. Today, his niece Veronica, Alessandro, and Margherita, Piero’s niece, are assisting him in running the winery. A union of forces that represents the new generation.
Cantina Palladino is located in Serralunga d’Alba in the province of Cuneo, in those Piedmont hills that are recognized worldwide among Italian wine excellences, the Langhe, located between the provinces of Cuneo and Asti and bordering the Astesana, the Monferrato and Roero.

The Palladino winery is immersed in the heart of the town, in that enchanting landscape typical of an ancient village. In this case, dominated by the Serralunga Castle, which elegantly stands out in the surrounding landscape together with the famous vineyards.

The Terroir of Palladino’s wines

ORNATO MG 1677

The 11 hectares of vineyards, cultivated with native grapes, are located in different areas. In Serralunga we find San Bernardo, Ornato, Parafada, Serra and Gabutti: here, the top of the range, Barolo signed by Palladino, is produced from Nebbiolo grapes. These soils that have different characteristics depending on the exposure and type.

Mainly composed of clay and limestone, typical of this part of Piedmont, they benefit from an optimal temperature range and microclimate for the ripening of the grapes. The heterogeneity that distinguishes the wines is truly wide.

For example, the wines obtained from the Ornato vineyards have characteristics of marked minerality, great structure and volume, while the wines produced from the San Bernardo vineyards are austere, rigid and with vigorous tannins.

Not least are those obtained from grapes grown in Parafada, with characteristics of extreme elegance and refinement. The Cellar is equipped with tanks for the fermentation and storage of wine and spaces where the large oak barrels lie

The line proposed by Palladino reflects the great Piedmontese tradition, where the DOCG of Barolo production stands out, alongside other equally fine wines such as Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo d’Alba, all typical varieties of this land.

Examples are the Barolo Docg Riserva San Bernardo, the Barbera d’Alba Superiore Doc Bricco delle Olive and the Dolcetto d’Alba Doc. A company that carries on a tradition, with passion and seriousness, constantly renewing itself.

The style of Palladino wines draws inspiration from tradition, with Barolo vinification exclusively in large barrels, long fermentation at controlled temperatures and malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks.

These choices, carried out with a great spirit of self-denial over the years, have made it possible to produce wines of great identity and unmistakable territorial character, allowing Barolo to be known and appreciated internationally.
