(TOARA DI VILLAGA – VICENZA) The Venetian winery Piovene Porto Godi is an excellent producer of Tocai Rosso, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as excellent whites, such as Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco and Garganega. Tai Rosso Thovara, complex and aromatic, is the flagship wine.
Piovene Porto Godi’s History and Philosophy
Family, tradition and enthusiasm. Three words that well summarize the history of Piovene Porto Godi Alessandro , an ancient Vicenza company that has become the custodian of wisdom and ability in creating wine. Famiglia refers to the dynasty that has been taking care of this property since the 16th century, changing the name but leaving the lineage intact.
Tradition refers to the wealth of knowledge that is now undisputed but also to the method by which we continue to produce wine. Only the grapes produced on the farm are vinified. No international vines, lots of manual skills and natural products. Last but not least enthusiasm, the true fil rouge of this story. Enthusiasm that mixes with patience, the necessary ingredient to create authentic and quality wines. The current owners are Alessandro’s children, Mariantonio and Tomaso, who are strengthening the bond with the land and the environment. The territory in which the vineyards extend is clayey and rich in limestone in the heart of the denomination, set in the natural amphitheater in the southern part of the Berici Hills.
The wines of Piovene Porto Godi
The privileged vines are those for which the area is naturally predisposed and indeed suitable: Tai (Tocai) Rosso , original and exclusive of this area, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon and Merlot . For white grapes, however, there are Sauvignon , Pinot Blanc and Garganega . The line, as you can guess, is wide, and capable of creating simple and sumptuous wines. The top wine is definitely Tai Rosso Thovara which can boast an important complexity, with a fruity and round aromatic picture on the palate. Another Red that stands out is certainly Merlot Frà i Broli, the color is a compact ruby, the flavor is intended with notes of vanilla and cherry, the long finish. Among the whites, Garganega Riveselle, which manages to conquer with its fruity and fresh aromas, should be noted .
