(CASTAGNETO CARDUCCI) Podere Conca is a small winery in the heart of Bolgheri owned by Silvia Cirri with the partners Livio Aloisi and Giovanni Gastel jr. The all-female team of the company creates wines that place an emphasis on finesse and freshness, a distinctive trait that goes against the trend among Bolgheri wines.

History of Podere Conca’s wines

Silvia Cirri, an anesthetist by profession, is a person with great sensitivity and passion, capable of appreciating the best things in life.

For this reason, in 2015, with the collaboration of Livio and Giovanni, she decided to start a new great adventure in the world of wine, taking as a basis the historic stone farmhouse with the red wooden doors that also appear in the company logo.

The farmhouse, located along the Via Bolgherese on a ‘basin’ -shaped land, had been recovered and restored by the Cirri family as early as the 1980s.

The company, initially started for the production of oil, later also took up wine, making use of the young and talented agronomist and oenologist Linda Franceschi and the prestigious consultancy of oenologist Laura Zuddas.

The company is entirely under organic management and has about 5 hectares of vineyards, distributed among French varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Viognier, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and the autochthonous Chilegiolo. Podere Conca is in fact the only winery to bet on the expressive potential of Ciliegiolo in blending Bolgheri wines.

Terroir of the wines of Podere Conca

The climate where Podere Conca wines are produced is typically Mediterranean, characterized by warm days and cool nights, also favored by the thermoregulatory action of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The vineyards are located on the gentle hills in the heart of the Bolgheri denomination, where they are caressed by the fresh sea breezes.

The soils where Podere Conca wines are born are mainly clayey, ferrous, with sands and pebbly deposits of alluvial origin. These are essential prerequisites for the production of wines of great intensity, balance and extraordinary aging potential.

Philosophy of Podere Conca wines

The philosophy of Podere Conca wines consists in producing wines that highlight the finesse and elegance of the fruit rather than opulence, a choice that goes against the trend of alternative to the other wines of the Bolgheri appellation.

Another choice that distinguishes Podere Conca is the great respect for the environment and biodiversity, as evidenced by the organic certification. Meticulous precision work is undertaken in the vineyard, followed by a manual selection of the grapes during the harvest and sorting phase.

The grapes are fermented in steel or non-vitrified concrete containers painted red, which guarantee a constant temperature without thermal changes and a neutrality that does not yield aromatic substances to the wine, but allows the maximum expression of the aromas and properties of the terroir and vine of origin.

This choice allows the wines of Podere Conca to convey the territorial enological expression of Bolgheri without compromise, also enhancing the character of the wines which is also connected to the climatic trend of the different vintages.

Wines of Podere Conca

The range of Podere di Conca wines is divided into 4 labels:

196 IGT Toscana, a pure Cabernet Sauvignon without passage in wood, of great freshness and drinkability, the Agapanto Bolgheri DOC wine, a particular blend with aging in second passage oak born from the mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and the Tuscan Ciliegiolo, which contributes with an unprecedented vertical, floral and fresh character.

Also worth considering is the elegant and complex Apitós wine, the flagship of the production, made from 100% Cabernet Franc with prolonged aging in new French oak barrels.

The range of Podere Conca wines closes with the Elleboro white wine, a blend of Viognier, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, of great flavor, embellished with captivating citrus and Mediterranean herbs aromas.
