(ALBA – CUNEO) A family that has been dealing with wine for generations in Piedmont. Tino Colla, with Pietro and Federica, produces red wines such as: Bricco del Drago, Barolo Bussia and Barbaresco Roncaglie from the three different production areas.

Poderi Colla’s History and Philosophy

The Piedmontese family Colla , although originally from the area of Santo Stefano Belbo in the province of Cuneo, a renowned place for the cultivation of Moscato grapes and for the production of delicious wines from this variety, has played an immense role in the production of the whole range of wines from the region. The adventure of Alba It began when Beppe Colla , at 19 just graduated winemaker, went to work for the Bonardi company of Alba (large and renowned winery) acquiring an extraordinary wealth of knowledge of the area and starting the experimentation that he will refine later. In 1956 Beppe purchased the Alfredo Prunotto winery, located in Alba, and made it known internationally, bringing it to the top positions among the wineries in the region, with a series of splendid wines produced in a complete panorama of local grapes.

Beppe, an expert winemaker, talented and with a special sensitivity, had the extraordinary advantage of unrivaled knowledge of the Albanian wine-growing areas, an experience that translated into the selection (started more than 60 years ago) of the best production areas indicated starting from 60s on the label with the name of cru. Beppe was then joined by his younger brother, Tino , who worked with him for a long period of time, taking advantage of his vast experience and culture. And in 1994, after the Colla brothers left Prunotto, Tino and his granddaughter Federica , daughter of Beppe, founded Poderi Collawho continued the noble family tradition by making wine from the excellent vineyards they had bought over time in the wake of Beppe’s experience. The companies that make up Poderi Colla today are the Cascine Drago of Alba , the Roncaglia di Barbaresco estate , the Dardi le Rose company in Monforte and the recently acquired Bricco Bompè of Alba where the new winery is being prepared.

The wines of Poderi Colla

The wines produced include: Nebbiolo d’Alba produced with grapes from the famous Cascina Drago, which borders Barbaresco north of Alba; Barbera d’Alba Costa Bruna is produced from grapes from a vineyard planted, in part, around 1930; the renowned Bricco del Drago is the only Italian “table wine” to have received the status of geographical indication by presidential decree in 1987; the Roncaglie vineyard in Barbaresco was already mentioned as a place of exceptional quality in the monograph by Lorenzo Fantini of 1880; while Barolo Bussia Dardi Le Rose, in 1961, was the first Barolo to proudly bear the name of the area of origin on the label, the first cru in the entire history of the area. An extraordinary tradition, whose continuity was ensured by the arrival of Tino Colla’s son, Pietro, together with Federica.
