Poggio al Lupo

Poggio al Lupo

(MAGLIANO IN TOSCANA – GROSSETO) Morellino di Scansano, Vermentino, Poggio al Lupo IGT Rosso of the Tuscan Maremma, are some of the red wines and white wines produced by Poggio al Lupo, one of the estates of the entrepreneur Antonio Moretti Cuseri.

Poggio al Lupo’s History and Philosophy

Few phenomena have changed the face of the geography of Tuscany as much as the boom in wine that started in the Maremma (basically made up of the two provinces of Livorno and Grosseto) which started in the mid-90s and continues today. What started as a gurgling turned into a flood, a run became a mark, and entire areas that had been uninhabitable for centuries due to the swamps and mosquitoes that caused malaria, were turned into vineyards and appellations, first only with a few bottlers, then with several dozen. Sometimes over hundreds.

Belonging to Tuscan producers in the historic central part of the region who were looking for interesting land to grow, others from outside the region, but none outside the sector, men and women who had decided to immerse themselves in the world of wine, convinced that it would be a gold mine. Sometimes a fair prediction was found, other times the imaginary gold mine proved to be a bottomless pit. An investor who, guided both by experience and instinct, did not make this mistake was Antonio Moretti Cuseri, already a producer in the upper valley of the Arno river, whose family had owned and cultivated a Sangiovese vineyard for years.

The wines of Poggio al Lupo

Moretti Cuseri, building on this basis, had created his Tenuta Sette Ponti in the mid-90s and the high-class wines had quickly established a very important reputation for the house. Moretti Cuseri already knew the area well, his family had spent a holiday in the area and decided that their Poggio al Lupo property favored the historic Sangiovese grape from the Morellino di Scansano area . And his has become one of the most valuable of the entire denomination , thanks to the wine-making advice of the professionals he has involved, currently Beppe Caviola, known and sought after all over Italy. The first exceptional wine of the Maremma was Bolgheri’s Sassicaia, which however Moretti Cuseri kept in mind in the excellent Poggio al Lupo IGT of the Tuscan Maremma that he offers.
