Poggio Mandorlo’s History and Terroir

It was 2001 when in the heart of Alta Maremma , at the foot of the extinct volcano Amiata, in the Montecucco DOCG area , four friends, all with an activity in sectors other than agri-food, started a great wine adventure, Poggio Mandorlo , with a common passion for wine.

The Poggio Mandorlo company is located in the north-western hilly area of the Monte Amiata massif , in a stretch of the Val d’Orcia , which creeps from the province of Siena to that of Grosseto, exactly in the Ansidonia area in Seggiano.

It has 38 hectares, of which about 1 hectare of olive groves from the local Olivastra Seggianese DOP cultivation and 12 hectares of vines cultivated with Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which rest on land that mainly sees a clayey / calcareous marl composition in the lower areas. , while in the higher plots the predominance is of tuff or galestro, where the altitude 400 meters above sea level and the presence of the mountain behind the vineyards, in communion with the frame of forest vegetation, allow the vineyards to take advantage of a particular freshness , which is passed on to the wine.
