Querceto di Castellina

Querceto di Castellina

Between the hills of Chianti Classico and Gaiole in Chianti is this company that produces Sangiovese-based Tuscan red wines such as the Chianti Classico Riserva Gran Selezione Sei red wine.

Querceto di Castellina’s History and Philosophy

The Chianti Classico , as we all know, is located in a hilly winegrowing. But in this context, Castellina in Chianti , one of the most central cities of the denomination, is a place where the hills become really very high. The road that connects San Donato to Collina, the final part of the Chianti Classico territory in the province of Florence, immediately begins to climb, crossing isolated and uninhabited areas, as well as pine forests – from which in the lower east you can admire Poggibonsi – until you reach the city of Castellina and then continue. We are at 2000 meters above sea level and our gaze travels very far to the horizon. In the east, once again, on a clear day it is possible to see the tops of the Metalliferous Hills, the only reason why it is not possible to see the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is not very far away.

Querceto di Castellina is a classic example of an agricultural estate in the area. Like many other villages in the Chianti Classico area , once, during the Middle Ages and in the Early Renaissance, it was part of a chain of outposts that had to defend the Florentine Republic from the rival army, the Republic of Siena. During this period the two states were very often in a state of conflict which turned into a real war.

The wines of Querceto di Castellina

Jacopo Di Battista  and his family, the owners, devote all their energy to their grapes, their olive groves and the hospitality offered in the numerous and charming stone farmhouses that today host visitors who want to discover and stay in this beautiful area of Tuscany . The vineyards are between 420 and 500 meters high, an important altitude, but, thanks to a viticulture carried out with seriousness, the ripening of red grapes becomes a little complex task, and the vineyards enjoy mainly south-west exposures and south, with only one occasional terrain facing south-east. Here Sangiovese is elegant and fragrant, true Chianti, thanks also to the efforts and skills of Gioia Cresti, the wine consultant. Of particular interest is the selection  Gran Selezione Sei .
