(CALDARO – BOLZANO) Ritterhof is a company that produces wines in Caldaro, famous for its wines from the Terra line, the Collis line, Lagrein Latus, or Gewürztraminer Auratus, the Rarus line, and many others.
Ritterhof history and philosophy
Tenuta Ritterhof produces wines in South Tyrol, in Caldaro a few kilometers from Lake Caldaro, the largest natural body of water in the autonomous province of Bolzano, on the wine route. An area known for its fine wines and also called ‘Land of castles, lakes and wines’.
The surrounding landscape is comparable to a romantic impressionist painting, where the vineyards follow one another in an orderly fashion and the mountains, not really far away, frame it.
In 1999 the estate was purchased by the Roner family, in collaboration with the oenologist Hannes Bernard. Over time, Ritterhof wines have acquired great success and the company has become one of the most representative South Tyrolean realities. Today the company is captained by Ludwig Kaneppele’s daughter, Eva Kaneppele, representative of the new generation, with a management that keeps faith with the original philosophy, thanks to which the estate has increased its importance over the years, focusing on the production Fine wines, respecting nature.
To date Ritterhof wines are produced in about 10 hectares of the family and another 36 by the suppliers, for a total of about 320,000 bottles produced per year.
The Terroir of Ritterhof wines
Ritterhof wines owe much of their success to the sensational enological vocation of the territory of origin. This consistency could be maintained, not only for the great South Tyrolean wine tradition, but also for the choice of the vineyards that stretch from Salorno to St. Madgalena with a perfect composition for the production of wine.
The fundamental natural factors are essential for Ritterhof wines: the micro-climate, the exposure, the altitude, and the heterogeneous conformation of the soils, from clayey soils to pebbly moraine soils and loose sandy soils, which favor thermal conduction even in the coldest periods.
These are the factors that make the grapes perfectly prepared for excellent ripeness, such as the Schiava grape, a native vine among the flagships of South Tyrol.
Ritterhof wines
For the production of Ritterhof wines, the processing in the cellar is researched and cared for down to the smallest detail by a high-level staff, which makes use of cutting-edge technologies, throughout the production phase: from the manual harvesting of the grapes in the vineyard, by of trusted winemakers, up to bottling and refinement.
Ritterhof’s range of wines includes three lines: the Terra line, the authentic, classic-flavored wines, the Collis line, the selected, truly sublime wines such as the excellent Lagrein Latus, or the irreplaceable Gewürztraminer Auratus, repeatedly winner of the ‘ Three Glasses’ Gambero Rosso. And finally, among the Ritterhof wines, the Rarus line, the treasures, precious rarities that are the exclusive result of artisanal perfection.
A line of Ritterhof wines as a whole that expresses intense wines of great identity and deeply rooted in tradition and South Tyrolean character in totems. Ritterhof wines never fade, authentic and original, refined and wisely interpreting the peculiar characteristics of the territory.
