The red and white wines produced are mainly Chianti Classico and Vin Santo of Chianti Classico, prepared with Sangiovese in primis, alongside Canaiolo, Colorino, Pugnitello, Malvasia Bianca del Chianti, and Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Rocca di Montegrossi’s History and Philosophy
A truly centuries-old, if not a thousand-year-old history, that of Rocca di Montegrossi , of which there are signs even in 1007 in a document of the Abbey of Passignano which declares it the property of the sons of Ridolfo , from which the Firidolfi and Ricasoli descended . But, to a certain extent, the company can be considered recent, since the first wines date back to the 1991 vintage with Vin Santo and the 1993 vintage with the Chianti Classico Riserva , but the age increases if we consider the constitution of the company, which took place in 1981 according to a specific project by Marco Ricasoli Firidolfi , who leads the company always aiming only at quality.
Land, climate and exposure are all excellent, and with the ability and professionalism of the experts they become an exceptional tool for making fine wines. The selected vines are, of course, those for which the territory is suited, Sangiovese in the first place, alongside Canaiolo , Colorino , Pugnitello , Malvasia Bianca del Chianti , and Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon for internationals.
The wines of Rocca di Montegrossi
All Rocca di Montegrossi wines are truly remarkable and impeccably made, which give the dimension of the unmistakable atmosphere of Monti in Chianti to Gaiole in Chianti. In fact, Chianti Classico is an unmistakable example of the qualities of this company, constant and reliable even in difficult years. The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is exemplary in its typology, as well as the Vin Santo del Chianti Classico and the IGT Rosato . Last but not least the IGT Geremia , a Bordeaux-cut wine with a clearly unmistakable soul of the Monti in Chianti terroir .
