San Valentino

(SAN MARTINO IN VENTI – RIMINI) The San Valentino winery, between Rimini and San Marino, produces wines from only four grape varieties, Cabernet Franc, Grechetto, Sangiovese and Syrah. The most representative wine is the red Terra di Covignano.

The history and the terroir of San Valentino

San Valentino is a winery located between Rimini and San Marino, in Emilia Romagna. Here in this precise area the environmental beauties are represented by the orderly agricultural crops, in particular by the vineyards and hills where some sites of the surrounding landscape are declared a Unesco World Heritage Site, such as nearby San Marino and Monte Titano, which dominates from the high across the valley to the Rimini coast.

The history of this company dates back to 1990, when Giovanni Mascarin founded it on the Covignano hill and to continue its work, today it is his son Roberto. Over time the winery has been expanded, and Roberto currently manages the 15 hectares of the company in a masterly way, thanks also to the contribution of the Aureli family consisting of Alfredo, Enrico and Valentina, in addition to the collaboration of the well-known enologist Luca D’Attoma, consultant for years of San Valentino and the company oenologist Alessandro Arlotti, in fact the company today can boast of a wine production of considerable value.

The Philosophy of San Valentino wines

Another big change dates back to 2009 when the company switched to an organic regime for the management of the vineyards and since 2016 the wine production has been concentrated on only four grape varieties, Cabernet Franc, Grechetto, Sangiovese and Syrah. A decision that has brought considerable successes, attested internationally by critics of the caliber of Robert Parker and James Suckling, sealing and showing the world the high level of San Valentino wines.

San Valentino Wines

The vineyards rest on land that enjoy optimal conditions, thanks to the exposure and proximity to the Adriatic Sea which mitigates the area’s microclimate. The cellar has been architecturally renovated since 2005, for a better processing of the grapes thanks to advanced technologies and a process, which makes use of tradition and expertise, which over time has brought excellent results such as the new Terra di Covignano, which sees the protagonist main grape is Sangiovese, while from Syrah and Cabernet Franc two wines come to life respectively: Mascarin and Luna Nuova, in addition to an annual production of 140,000 bottles.

The range produced is well articulated in the denominations and PGIs typical of the area and is divided into the “Scabi” line, a line of great immediacy and drinkability consisting of: Romagna Sangiovese Superiore DOP, IGP Sangiovese Rosato, Colli Di Rimini Rebola DOP. From the “Classics” line that represents wines of greater refinement, and eloquence composed of Romagna Sangiovese Superiore Riserva Dop and Rubicone Rosso PGI. And finally, of great interest from the organic selection line: “The selections of Monovarietal Vineyard” consisting of: Rubicone Cabernet Franc PGI, Colli Di Rimini Rebola DOP, Romagna Sangiovese Superiore Riserva DOP, Colli Di Rimini Rebola Passito DOP. All wines that derive their strength from a great territorial character but also from great foresight, an essential ingredient to masterfully reconcile tradition and enological innovation.
