Sator’s History and Terroir
The Sator company is located near the ancient village of Pomaia, on the slopes of the Pisan hills, in the Val di Fine furrowed by the Marmigliaio stream, which descends from Monte Vaso, between Santa Luce and Castellina Marittima, in the far north of the Tuscan Maremma. An area known and inhabited since Etruscan times. The economy is still strongly linked to agriculture, which constitutes the main productive activity of these hills, both for wine, for oil, and various other crops. A place where it is still possible to get in touch with ancient crafts and sincere people.
The Philosophy of the wines of Sator
Talk about the Sator Company,of his wines, of the territory and of the philosophy applied to production, it is not possible without underlining the origins of the family and the profound link with the countryside, the name itself Sator is a summary, that is, Sower. The Moscardini family has been cultivating this precious land for over four generations, even if it is a young foundation for viticulture.
The 13 hectares of vines fall within the Montescudaio DOC area and the vineyards are placed in different plots called “Campo San Giovanni”, “Campo al Pino”, “Cantina”, “Puntina” and “Riserva” at about 180 m above sea level.
The cultivated varieties are Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese, Teroldego, Merlot and Cabernet Franc for the red berried ones, the Vermentino and Fiano for the white berried ones. Grapes, grown with guyot or spurred cordon and which enjoy excellent climatic conditions, thanks to the proximity of the Tyrrhenian Sea, excellent exposure and soils of magmatic-volcanic origin, as well as limestone, stony and clayey.
In the cellar the work reflects the tradition made of ancient secrets and innovative methods for the skilful processing of the grapes and under the careful supervision of the well-known oenologist Emiliano Falsini, a vigilant adviser, who has shown over the years that he knows how to grasp the soul of the different terrains with technical versatility and refinement.
The wines of Sator
These elements are the basis of the result of the line produced, in which in its wines are found those organoleptic characteristics that give each label a personal depth and body. Among the reds produced the intense and strong Operaundici Doc Montescudaio, it is a wine that fully reflects the company. Not least is the Sileno Montescudaio Merlot, a monovarietal assembly of great value. But the company also produces two whites: Il Vermetino and Artume Igt Toscana, in addition to the pleasant rosé SATOR IGT Toscana.
