Solatione

The name is enough to indicate the splendid position of this company: Solatione because the sunny exposure of these hilly lands near San Casciano Val di Pesa are the best you could want to build a vineyard there.
Renato Giachi, a great wine lover, also thought so, when in 1970, at the beginning of the “rediscovery” of Chianti, he purchased this property. After a long work on the ground, full of large boulders, to break which dynamite was even used, in 1972 the first cuttings of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia and Trebbiano were planted.

However, for twenty years, until 1992, Solatione wine, as in the case of many other winemakers, was sold in bulk to the large merchants of the area, until the family decided to start autonomous marketing. Renato Giachi passed away in 1999, his sons Fabio and Francesca, with great sacrifice but also with a lot of determination and passion, continued in the work he started.

The goal was immediately to aim to obtain quality wines by working hard on the vineyard in all its phases: pruning, thinning, selection of the grapes during the harvest and manual collection in boxes. The production philosophy was to continue producing a traditional, fruity, elegant Chianti Classico, aged in large barrels, even when the market required wines with a high hint of wood, with the so-called “international taste”.
The results were comforting by rewarding the Giachi brothers for their consistency.Starting from the harvest, the company began producing a wine in Igt Toscana, Rossombroso, from Merlot grapes. A choice dictated by the fact that this variety gives optimal results on these lands, which has prompted the owners to plant a new small plot. Overall, the company covers 14 hectares of land, 6 of which are cultivated with vineyards, mostly in Sangiovese. Four wines produced: Chianti Classico Docg, Chianti Classico Riserva (only in the best vintages), Vinsanto del Chianti Classico Doc and Rossombroso Igt Toscana. The total annual production is around 16 thousand bottles. A small quantity but of extreme quality, just as Renato Giachi would have liked. Solatione
