Tenuta Fanti

(MONTALCINO – SIENA) Tenuta Fanti is a historic family-run company, among the most important and renowned reference points for traditional-style Brunello di Montalcino

History and Philosophy of Tenuta Fanti

In the heart of Tuscany, south of Montalcino, stretches the valley of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, dominated by the beautiful Abbey of Sant’Antimo. Since the early 19th century, the Fanti family has kept their agricultural tradition alive, now passionately continued by Filippo, Elisa, and Elena Fanti.

Vine cultivation, the relentless pursuit of the finest quality, and the development of technical expertise have turned wine production into the Fanti family’s main activity.

In 2004, with the construction of the new winery, Tenuta Fanti marked a significant turning point in its history. The winery, equipped with new technologies for selection and vinification, aims to respect the primary characteristics of the grapes. These are enhanced through careful selection of woods for maturation and an adequate period of bottle aging.

Terroir of Tenuta Fanti

The Estate spans approximately 200 hectares, of which 50 are dedicated to specialized vineyards. The location of the land along the hills from Montalcino to Castelnuovo dell’Abate, at an altitude between 150 and 430 meters above sea level, confers unique characteristics to the wines. Filippo Fanti has pursued a vineyard expansion program over the last thirty years, maintaining Sangiovese as the heart of production.

Sangiovese occupies about 80% of the vineyard area, while the remaining 10 hectares are planted with other Tuscan and international grape varieties, enriching the variety of wines produced. For 15 years, Tenuta Fanti has adopted an agronomic philosophy respectful of consumers and the environment, limiting the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Practices such as “green manure” and mechanical weed eradication testify to the commitment to sustainability. Indeed, the company cultivates its vineyards and olive groves using organic farming methods.

Wines of Tenuta Fanti

Tenuta Fanti offers a diverse range of wines, reflecting the richness of the Castelnuovo dell’Abate territory.

Of great interest are the two selections Brunello di Montalcino Riserva “Vigna le Macchiarelle”, produced in excellent vintages and coming from the vineyard planted in 1980, which is the company’s flagship, distinguished for its great aging potential, and the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG “Vallocchio”, of great complexity and structure, is a special selection from the oldest vineyards of the company, located in the territory of Castelnuovo dell’Abate.

The classic Brunello di Montalcino, produced from the first vintage in 1980, represents the beginning of Filippo Fanti’s journey in the industry, and is obtained from a selection of 10 hectares of Sangiovese.

Tenuta Fanti’s wine range is complemented by other wines, including the Rosso di Montalcino DOC, the Sant’Antimo Rosso DOC “Sassomagno”, the IGT Toscana Rosso “Poggio Torto”, the IGT Toscana Rosato, the Sant’Antimo Bianco DOC “Soralisa”, and the Sant’Antimo DOC Vin Santo. Each bottle reflects the constant commitment of Tenuta Fanti to the production of high-quality wines.

In addition to wine production, Tenuta Fanti is renowned for its extra virgin olive oil.
