Tenuta Kornell’s History and Philosophy
Surrounded by vineyards and apple trees, and owned by the Brigl family, Tenuta Kornell is located in Settequerce, in the municipality of Terlano at the foot of the ruins of the Greifenstein castle, near Bolzano. The art of winemaking has been carried out in this area already since the 3rd century B.C. The climate and the composition of the sunlit soil, rich in porphyry, make these vineyards especially apt to produce fine wines.
The history of Tenuta Kornell dates back to over 700 years ago. The family estate made up of about 15 hectares covers an area among Settequerce, Appiano Monte and Gries, at an elevation between 270 and 550 meters a.s.l. The work carried out in the vineyards and the cellar fully respects the natural ripening times of the grapes.
Currently, Florian Brigl manages the estate with great care, aided by his young staff made up of collaborators sharing a passion for winemaking. Their winning mission is to connect nature and mankind, to create fine wines with a Mediterranean note, giving them unique charm and an honest personality.
The work in the cellar is careful in all the passages, up to the controlled fermentation in the steel tanks. The wines are finished for periods ranging from 14 and 18 months in large oak barrels or barriques, and in the bottles for another 10 months before being marketed.
The wines of Tenuta Kornell
Tenuta Kornell has bottled its own wines since 2001, offering excellent typical wines featuring the elegant notes that are distinctive of great wines.
The range offers white wines such as Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gewürztraminer, and red wines such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Lagrein. The Kornell wines elegantly reflect the soul of the territory and the traditions of Alto Adige.
Among the vineyards, the Ansitz Kornell at the foot of the Greifensteiner Hang hides the Schafferhaus, the oldest structure in the farmhouse, that has been refurbished to accommodate guests.
