(CATANIA) The Etna DOC is among the oldest in Italy and Tenute Bosco is one of the most iconic realities of this area. Tenute Bosco’s wines are four: Etna Bianco DOC Piano dei Daini, Etna Rosso DOC Piano dei Daini, Etna Rosato DOC Piano dei Daini and the flagship Etna Rosso DOC Vico Prephylloxera.

The history of Tenute Bosco wines

Tenute Boscon was born from Sofia Ponzini’s passion for her land with
the goal of creating high quality wines inspired by the Etna tradition.

We are located in Sicily, in southern Italy in Castiglione di Sicilia in the province
of Catania, an area that is part of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Here the famous Etna DOC wines are produced, true icons
of Italian enology, which over the years have enjoyed growing success
becoming one of the most appreciated denominations internationally.

Tenute Bosco is recognized as one of the most representative wineries and award-winning from Etna and has an artisan production of about 45,000 bottles per year.

Terroir of the wines of Tenute Bosco

Tenute Bosco has a vineyard area of twelve hectares, grown organically, located on the north side of Etna, within the Etna area, a unique landscape in the world, where the ancient Sicilian agricultural civilization was born.

Exclusively endemic grape varieties from indigenous vines
located north of the volcano, a slope that has always been particularly suited to
viticulture and on two different districts: Piano dei Daini in Solicchiata and Santo
Spirito in Passopisciaro, at an altitude between 600 and 750 meters
s.l.m.

The volcanic soils with a sandy matrix rich in mineral micronutrients in combination with the climate and altitude, are in fact essential conditions for giving life to wines with a unique character.

Of particular interest are 4 hectares of sapling and ungrafted vines, most of which are over 120 years old having been planted in pre-phylloxera. Among the oldest on the north side, it is located in the Santo Spirito district, a natural amphitheater, which has about 27,000 trees on terraces obtained from dry lava stone walls.

Philosophy of Tenute Bosco wines

Tenute Bosco’s philosophy is focused on the production of elegant wines,
but territorial, exemplary witnesses of this ancient and unique land in his
pedoclimatic specificities and in the different years. Respect for the environment e
for biodiversity are certainly the key elements in the production of
Tenute Bosco wines, which in fact boasts a certified organic production.

Good planting density like modern quality viticulture, yields in
low vineyard and rigorous manual selection adopted to bring only the best grapes with perfect ripeness to the cellar. These are essential prerequisites for not having to intervene with invasive corrections during the vinification phase, but to let the first quality raw material obtained from the work in the vineyard speak for itself.

The wines of Tenute Bosco

Tenute Bosco’s wines are four and stand out for their authenticity, value and great personality. Of great interest is Etna DOC Bianco, a 90% blend of Carricante with Cataratto, Grecanico, Inzolia, extremely fresh and savory; the unmistakable Etna DOC Rosato, a pure Nerello Mascalese, with a pale color, versatile in combinations with food and with a remarkable acidity.

To consider the red wines of Tenute Bosco: the classic Etna DOC Rosso, blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, Piano dei Daini district, the first wine to be produced and also Etna DOC Rosso Vico Prephylloxera, flower all ‘ eyelet, with surprising depth and elegance, obtained from a selection of a single parcel of Nerello Mascalese in the Santo Spirito district.

The recognition of these results must be attributed to the management of the company by the family and the work team mostly made up of women, who with great determination and love have created a truly interesting wine reality. The wines of Tenute Bosco are characterized by great identity and combine great olfactory eloquence, flavor and richness on the palate. A
testimony once again of the great expressive potential of the Etna terroir.
