Tenute Friggiali and Pietranera

(MONTALCINO – SIENA) Tenuta Friggiali and Tenuta Pietranera, both in the central area of Montalcino, produce an excellent Brunello. The estates are owned by the Peluso Centolani family.

The history of Tenute Friggiali and Pietranera wines

The Centolani farm is located in Montalcino, in Tuscany. A prestigious territory that gives life to the renowned Brunello di Montalcino, the iconic Tuscan wine made 100% from Sangiovese, which benefits from the Mediterranean climate and the clayey-limestone soil of the region.

The Centolani farm was founded in 1975 by the Neapolitan lawyer Giovanni Peluso and is made up of two distinct estates: Tenute Friggiali and Pietranera. The consistency of the quality of the wines is guaranteed by the hard work and passion of the Peluso Centolani family who manage both, giving this winery its unique character.

To date, the company produces an average of 250,000 bottles a year, much appreciated by wine lovers who want Brunello di Montalcino with an authentic character and great elegance.

The Terroir of the wines of Tenute Friggiali and Pietranera

Tenuta Friggiali, is the historical brand of the company. It is located on the southwestern side of Montalcino and extends over 21 hectares, including a small and prestigious cru, called Donna Olga, managed by Olga Peluso. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 400 to 250 meters above sea level, while the soil is rich in skeleton and the climate is windy and cool.

The other estate, Tenuta Pietranera, boasts 20 hectares and is located on the south-east side of the Montalcino hill. The vineyards lie on the plain at an average height of 200 meters above sea level, the soil is rich in clay, mineral salts and dark lava stones (hence the name ‘Pietranera’) while the temperature is higher than in the Friggiali estate.

Wines of Tenute Friggiali and Pietranera

Among the wines of Tenute Friggiali, Brunello di Montalcino shows its traditional characteristics: the ruby red color, the aromas of woods and spices, while on the palate the tannic component has a soft and enveloping texture. A distinctive feature of the wines of Tenute Friggiali are acidity, which gives excellent freshness, elegance and aging potential to the wines.

Along the same lines, the Brunello di Montalcino Pietranera, which although homogeneous in the interpretation of the grape, has different nuances on the nose and on the palate. Pietranera wines are characterized by greater tannic structure and taste-olfactory intensity, a common characteristic for wines from the southern side of Montalcino.

But the line of wines of Tenute Friggiali and Pietranera is waiting to be discovered and once again testifies to the great expressive potential of the Montalcino terroir.
