Terre de la Custodia

(GUALDO CATTANEO – PERUGIA) The Farchioni family in Umbria has been producing excellent Umbrian wines Montefalco Bianco Plentis, Montefalco Rosso Riserva and Sagrantino Exubera for centuries based on native grapes such as Sagrantino, Sangiovese and Grechetto.

Terre de la Custodia’s History and Philosophy

Since 1780 the Farchioni family has been involved in the agriculture of its region, Umbria , and, over the centuries, with passion and commitment it has been able to create a history linked mainly to extra virgin olive oil, whose offers are available in shops and supermarkets throughout Italy. And these are not products for the mass market: their extra virgin olive oil is tasty and of excellent quality and is often sold at extremely reasonable prices. In more recent years, the family has embraced other sectors and one of considerable interest is their line of craft beers, sold under the name of Mastri Birrai Umbri, which includes both light and dark beers, organic beers, double malt, all beers refermented in the bottle, and other high-level proposals, which demonstrate that this is not just a drink to be drank during the holidays, or to accompany hamburgers, hot dogs or pizza, but rather it can be of great interest and variety, a drink of true character and personality.

Wine could not be missing as part of the group’s overall work and, in fact, in recent years the Farchioni group’s winery, Terre de la Custodia in Gualdo Cattaneo , has received great recognition for its excellent interpretations of the major wine varieties of the ‘Umbria. This operation, in fact, is exclusively focused on the native grapes, Sagrantino , Sangiovese and Grechetto , and also on the Charmat Brut Method winewhich is produced by Grechetto. This is not a small company, there are over 160 hectares of vineyards and the major wines of the line are produced in substantial numbers: 200 thousand bottles of Grechetto, 100 thousand of Montefalco Rosso, and 50 thousand of Montefalco Sagrantino.

The wines of Terre de la Custodia

The winemaker of the house, Vincenzo Cudia , is helped by one of the most famous consultants in Italy (if not in the world), Riccardo Cotarella , and both the regular bottling and the selections have obtained the deserved recognition for their quality and typicality. In particular, Montefalco Bianco Plentis , Montefalco Rosso Riserva and Sagrantino Exubera compete very well with the best of their denomination. The last of these is usually sold after ten years of aging, a sign of the intensity, length and power that this exceptional grape can offer.
