Terre de Trinci’s History and Philosophy

Umbria is a multi-faceted region, where the sacred and history come together in this energetic mystic. The Umbrian winemaking tradition has a history equal to all the Italian one, ancient and rooted. The Terre de ‘Trinci company actually takes its name from the glorious history of the Trinci family, the ancient lords of Foligno, who ruled the city from 1305 to 1493 and owners of the same land in which Terre de’ Trinci now cultivates its vineyards, near Montefalco, home of the famous Sagrantino. An extraordinary grape variety, Sagrantino, which over time has managed to confirm itself for its unmistakable quality, capable of producing energetic and highly articulated wines, both in the dry version and in the passito version.

It was 1992 when Terre de ‘Trinci came to light, created by the will of some farmers interested in producing wine from their grapes, a small area between Foligno, Bevagna, Montefalco and Gualdo Cattaneo. But it was the pioneer entrepreneur Lodovico Mattoni, in addition to having been the founder of the Cantina Terre de Trinci, a leading figure in the panorama of the Umbrian, national and international wine sector, who died a few years ago, who deserves the merit of having been among the fathers of Sagrantino Secco. In fact, he was among the first to follow “the new course of the so-called ‘dry winemaking’ […]. Giving rise to one of the main successes that have helped to relaunch the flourishing Umbrian enology and place it at the top of the international market “.

The current company philosophy, as in the past, focuses on quality and the excellent results obtained in the suggestive cellar where Sagrantino di Montefalco Secco was born testifies in addition, the company boasts the fact that in 1996 it was the first Umbrian winery and the second in Italy to obtain and apply the UNI EN ISO 9002 certified quality system.

The wines of Terre de Trinci

The Terre de ‘Trinci line is well organized, with wines that perfectly reflect the territory such as: Sagrantino di Montefalco, Rosso di Montefalco, Rosso di Montefalco Riserva, Colli Martani Grechetto and Grechetto IGT and the excellent Cajo, produced with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sagrantino grapes grown outside the DOC area of Montefalco, which takes its name from the Roman Emperor Cajo Mario, depicted in the Room of the Giants, also in Palazzo Trinci, and the Luna produced with Chardonnay grapes, approximately 15%, and Grechetto, a native grape of Umbria, whose name instead derives from a painting, the work of Gentile da Fabriano, located in the beautiful Palazzo Trinci in Foligno. And one cannot help but notice that history is once again “mixed” with this incredible land and its vines.
