The Tiefenbrunner Estate, now in its fifth generation, is currently managed by Sabine and Christof. The history of Tiefenbrunner has its roots in the centuries, in fact it is from 1675 that the farm belongs to the family members of the current owners.

In 1848 the estate was focused as a winery and the sale of grapes and wine, making it one of the most historic estates in all of South Tyrol.

Tiefenbrunner currently has about 800,000 bottles produced and has a vineyard extension that covers about 25 hectares, to which are added the bunches of producers-contributors corresponding to another 45 hectares of vineyards.

The blends of excellent quality are handled in the cellar by the oenologist Stephan Rohregger, who has collaborated with the family since 2007, emphasizing the characteristics that the lands of this area give to the grapes.

Philosophy of Tiefenbrunner wines

Respect for the environment and biodiversity are certainly two fundamental elements in the production of Tiefenbrunner wines. In fact, the winery is not only partly organic, but also limits the use of copper by choosing more sustainable alternative strategies.

The use of oak barriques and tonneaux is intended to embellish but not mask the varietal character of the vines, a decidedly modern approach. In addition, refinements on the fine lees and fermentation at controlled temperatures are adopted by Tiefenbrunner to maximize and preserve the expressive potential and clarity of the varietal aromas. Good planting density, quality viticulture, low yields in the vineyard are further choices skilfully undertaken for the production of Tiefenbrunner wines to bring only the best perfectly ripe grapes to the cellar.

These are essential prerequisites for Tiefenbrunner wines not to have to intervene with invasive corrective agents during the vinification phase and let the grapes become a sincere narrator of the territory of origin, in its specific pedoclimatic and different vintages.

The Wines of Tiefenbrunner

The wines of Tiefenbrunner are the result of a process that comes from a great tradition that dates back to before the Romans in South Tyrol. An example was the Reti, an ancient population of the Central-Eastern Alps who had introduced wooden barrels, while at the court of Augustus the wine was still kept in leather skins or amphorae.

In fact, the production of Tiefenbrunner wines is divided into four different lines of labels: Selection VIGNA, Selection LINTICLARUS, Selection TURMHOF and Classic MERUS. Tiefenbrunner wines are born from the classic vines grown in South Tyrol such as Müller Thurgau, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Schiava, Lagrein, Pinot Nero, Merlot, Gewürztraminer, passing through Cabernet, Pinot Grigio, Moscato Giallo and Moscato Rosa.

A wine to report among the wines of Tiefenbrunner that is part of the Vigna selection is the Rachtl Sauvignon Blanc Riserva Alto Adige DOC. It is a wine of unusual elegance in its own right among the best Italian white wines: intense and velvety taste and complex and multifaceted aromas. The Rachtl of Tiefenbrunner which gives the measure of all the mastery of this winery in the processing of wine, remaining a certain point of reference for its region.

Of great interest among the wines of Tiefenbrunner is also the LINTICLARUS Cuvèe Riserva, an exciting Bordeaux blend obtained from the assembly of Merlot and Cabernet, vinified separately and aged for 12 months in barrique.

Among the wines of Tiefenbrunner the Muller Thurgau Feldmarschall also stands out, obtained from a vineyard located at over 1000 meters above sea level with clayey and limestone soils. It is a virtuous interpretation by Muller Thurgau of rare sapidity and olfactory eloquence, which maximizes the elegance and expressiveness of this grape.
