(TUFO – AVELLINO) In Irpinia Stefano di Marzo produces Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino and Aglianico wines. The land gives personality to these white wines and red wines from Campania, which are well representative of this area in the province of a Avellino.

Torricino’s History and Philosophy

We are in Irpinia where the territory looks like a plateau engraved by valleys and dotted with reliefs, among which numerous rivers and streams meander, exactly we are in the province of Avellino , in Tufo . The economy of the area is mainly based on the production of Greco di Tufo, the renowned white wine known all over the world, which owes the peculiarity of its taste to the soils rich in sulfur of Tufo. In addition to Greco di Tufo DOCG , other wines are produced which are among the finest in this area: Taurasi DOCG, Fiano di Avellino and Aglianico.

The Torricino winery managed by Stefano Di Marzo, oenologist and agronomist, who represents the fourth generation, has been carrying on the family traditions since the beginning of the millennium. The approximately ten hectares of vineyards planted on 8 farms are strategically located in the most suitable wine-growing areas of Tufo: Vignale, Ripa ai Corvi, Serrone, Torricino, Campanaro, Fellone, Santo Stefano and Saude . The vineyards are conducted in an integrated pest management system and planted on soils rich in clay, limestone and sulphurous veins, at different altitudes: the Serrone at 250m, the Santo Stefano from 300 to 350m, the Fiano at 380m and the Aglianico at 420m.

The wines of Torricino

The peculiarity of some vineyards, such as those located in Santo Stefano , lies in the fact that they are located above the old tuff sulfur mines discovered in 1866, therefore on mineral soils that give a strong mineral extraction to the wine, which is found in the typical perfume del Greco di Tufo grown in these vineyards, and being very poor vineyards, they create the conditions for a large extractive and acidic contribution of the wine, therefore it is a wine that has a marked color, an acidity and an important minerality, it is an example the Greco di Tufo Raone docg.

The proposed line is complete and composed of: Greco di Tufo docg, Greco di Tufo Raone docg, Fiano di Avellino docg, Campania Falanghina i.g.t, Fiano di Avellino Serrapiano docg, Taurasi Cevotiempo docg, Irpini Aglianico doc. and an Irpinia Greco Passito doc.
