Velenosi

(ASCOLI PICENO) The Velenosi winery boasts excellent vineyards such as Rosso Piceno, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi , Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from which the best wines such as  Ludi, Roggio dei Filari,  Verdicchio, Roggio dei Filari are born.

Velenosi’s History and Philosophy

In recent years one of the most interesting and impressive phenomena in the viticulture of the Marches has been the growth in importance of the province of Ascoli Piceno as a source of amazing red wine. This region has always been better known for its white wines, given the enormous production volumes of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi , which dominate those of the other regional appellations and have given this wine a dominant role in the speeches on viticulture and enology of the Marche.

But the region can also boast one of the most important red grapes in Italy, both in terms of hectares used for its cultivation and for the quality it manages to obtain: Montepulciano . And in the southern province of Ascoli Piceno the best results are achieved. There has been some confusion in the understanding of the wines of the Rosso Piceno denomination , due to the definition of the wine itself: it is the typical case of inadequate legislation, in fact Rosso Piceno can be produced very far from the province of Ascoli Piceno , even in the surroundings of the city of Ancona, which is located over 100 km north. An absurdity, which undoubtedly penalized the wine. But Ascoli Piceno (which borders the province of Teramo to the south ) undoubtedly shows an extraordinary resemblance to these offers.

The wines of Velenosi

Historically it is the source of the best Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and the best bottles of Rosso Piceno . And among the best ever, those of Angela Velenosi , whose efforts in demonstrating the virtues of her adoptive region (she is from Teramo ) are second to none. As demonstrated by its exceptional Roggio dei Filari , classic in its breadth, strength, warmth and richness. His Ludi , which adds international grapes to a high level Montepulciano , is an equally significant success. But everything in the line is a good example of this variety: the fresh and fragrant Verdicchio , the two versions of Pecorino, both sweet and dry, the exemplary Lacrima di Morro d’Alba , the classic sparkling wines. Quality and numbers: the house now cultivates something like 190 hectares of vineyards and these are nothing more than the starting point of these excellent wines: 50 thousand bottles of Roggio dei Filari , just to name an example.
