Vie di Romans

(MARIANO DEL FRIULI – GORIZIA) Vie di Romans is one of the best white producers, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon, from Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Vie di Romans’s History and Philosophy

Talent is something inexplicable. In many fields, people who seem to have been born with all possible benefits (wealth, education) end up failing miserably, while others, born in humble circumstances, become the classic “self-made men”, whose stories are both told as inspiration in the popular press that you study in business schools to help replicate the winning factors.

These words are a reflection on the career of Gianfranco Gallo , farmer-producer in Mariano del Friuliwhich has achieved international fame and praise for the exceptional white wines it produces year after year. There would seem to be nothing extraordinary in the early years of his biography: he was born into a family of farmers who produced grapes and wines with the characteristics of those times. Studying at the agricultural institute in Cividale del Friuli, perhaps less known than the oenological school of Conegliano but no less scientifically qualified, something turned on in the young Gallo, and even his initial wines were soon considered something new and different in terms of freshness, fragrance, breadth and length, and in a short time they found enthusiastic consumers in Italy and in international markets.

The wines of Vie di Romans

Leveraging on these satisfactory results, the house has expanded over the years, now cultivating 60 hectares of vineyards, while also changing style and approach. The first wines, those of 35-40 years ago, were created according to the canons of the time that emphasized fragrance and varietal character, minus the body and fullness, whose realization became a priority. The first experiences of the use of wood in the maturation of wines also began, a practice not common at the time. From those years Gallo began a profound transformation process, starting from a new viticultural and enological vision capable of expressing and combining aromaticity, freshness and consistency to the various cultivated terroirs, using indifferently wood and steel to guarantee the right vitality and persistence. The line includes virtually each of the region’s major varieties , all interpreted in a masterly way.

The enigma of talent remains.
