Villa Matilde

(CELLOLE – CASERTA) A company linked to Falerno del Massico and its region, Campania. For years it has been strongly committed to protecting the environment with the Zero Emissions project. A strong identity that never ceases to amaze, even with the line of wines produced in Anfora. Vigna Camarato the best red wine from this cellar.

Villa Matilde’s History and Philosophy

Villa Matilde links its name to Falerno del Massico , the wine so celebrated in antiquity and brought back to life, after centuries of oblivion, by Francesco Paolo Avallone , founder of the company in the sixties. Today the Falerno del Massico Doc is one of the most popular productions in Campania and is the undisputed banner of Villa Matilde in 28 countries around the world. The company is run by Salvatore and Maria Ida Avallone , sons of Francesco Paolo, who passed away in 2006: in the last twenty years they have successfully carried out their father’s project by combining local culture and innovation, entrusting their wines to the winemaker Fabio Gennarelli with the advice of Riccardo Cotarella.

From the province of Caserta , where there is still the company center (with guesthouse, zero km restaurant, spaces for tasting), they went to the provinces of Benevento and Avellino with new vineyards, new projects and wines that tell the strong identity of Campania Felix . In 2000 Villa Matilde inaugurated Tenuta Rocca dei Leoni and in 2004 Tenuta d’Altavilla, starting the production of new wines including the mighty Taurasi.

The wines of Villa Matilde

The quality is the first production rule : Villa Matilde not mass-produced wines and invests in studies and ongoing research: the wine in amphorae , born in 2015, is the first experiment of red Falerno fermented and aged for 12 months in Pithoi and Dolia , amphorae in terracotta made exclusively for Villa Matilde on the model of those of antiquity.

The company combines history with a profound respect for the environment: for over ten years, Villa Matilde has been carrying out the ” Zero Emissions ” project with the aim of eliminating greenhouse gas emissions through a series of integrated actions that they totally invest the company production: from the vineyard to the final distribution. Research in the cellar has produced in recent years the sparkling wines Mata Rosè from Aglianico grapes and white Mata from Falanghina grapes sparkling in the company with the Classic Method . Produced exclusively with grapes from the historic vineyards of the San Castrese estate in the Ager Falernus , on the slopes of the volcano ofRoccamonfina , they interpret the territory in a new and lively way and stand out for their long stay on the lees: 42 months for the rosé and 65 for the white.
